Car went into "limp" home mode the other day, engine light on and no 2nd gear. The local tranny guy reckons that it has a crook shift solenoid but is an easy fix (quoted $260 - tranny service plus solenoid ???). Might be a dumb question but if the pan is off I should get the other solenoid replaced as well yes/no. Also with new solenoids will it shift any better (already has bumped up line pressures) or will it be like topping up the water into the spray wiper washer bottle i.e same old same old?

if you can afford it change both.
i would only think new solenoids would make it shift like it should be shifting mate.

No, first time I'd been there. He's been in the game for quite a few years and is backed up by our state based car emergency call out service (RAA) so I think he sounds like a reputable type of guy.

Do it I think mate,
Ask him the price of solinoids and see if you can do better and ask him the brand of them.
