I know you shouldn't get too carried away washing the engine bay, but...
The outlaws turned up the other day in their VR Stato. So the father in law and I decided to give the old girl a bit of a clean up, esp the engine bay.
So yesterday morning, we applied some degreaser and hosed her down. As per usual, she started stright away, and then died (my old VS S111 used to do the same).
Usually, my old car would then start after a few hours of drying out.
However, the VR still won't go after drying out for the last 24 hours (and it's been 38c here).
Just checked and there's no spark. Checked the dissy and coil, and they were still covered in dust as we made sure that we didn't get any water back there.
I've done a few searches and found mention of a post that related to a VS Stato that had this same problem, but I don't seem to be able to find that post.
I've unclipped as many connectors as I could and hit them with an air gun. But to no avail.
Any ideas on what else I should be doing?
Cheers
Just a thought, maybe the water caused a short and blown a fuse?
Yep, thought of that too....
Anyway, got the local NRMA man to come out.
Turns out that the coil packed it in.
Not too sure how the coil would go after washing the engine (especially since we didn't wet it or the dizzy).
Off to market tomorrow to get a new one.
Now all I need to do is get the old one out![]()
this exact thing happened to me i ended up leaving the old one in there and screwing the new one in the firewall dont try to get the old one out chace the wires and put it on the firewall
There seems to be a bit of a phobia of the coil around here, you guys must have huge hands, I'm allways taking mine off and it really a 2 minute job, very easy. I guess if the coil was cracked you could kill it with water
Don't know about a phobia, more like it's a pain...
I got the old one out in about 10 minutes; with much fun and games. There is a trick to it, but I'm still working it out... Once you move all the ancillary pipes and tubes out of the way, it gets a bit easier.
Hopefully, the new one will go in easier.
