    Default VS Calais A/C Problems

Okies the other thread is a little too long to read.

    Two problems

One is that i have heat coming out of the bottom vents, replaced heater tap and vac lines. N e other ideas.

Second problem is, i though my A/C was having problems ages ago and took it in to get checked they said its cooling down fine, but as i said to them normally on 23 D is fine around town and on the road but now days i need to run it at 16 to even cool the car but they said its cooling down fine :-/

Other day i went driving on 16D about 2 hrs into the drive it was starting to get hot in the and a really bad noise was coming from the glove box area. i had the fan on 3 on manual as its climate control.

It was hardly blowing any air even turning the fan down the noise would go but stuff all blowing out. About 5 hrs later jumped in the car and it was all working fine again.

    What do i do.

Replace the whole system with the new Gas etc.. if so can i do it myself and whats the name or the system or where do i buy it?

Or can i just replace i guess the Fan unit in the old system? would this fix it? well at least my fan issue, and is it linked to my other problem...

Please list part names or as much info as possible thanks.

replace the vacumme box it sits behind the tray under your cd/tape player, it has all the vacumme hoses coming out.

if you goto holden and tell them you have a vs calais with climate control and you need the black vacumm box that sits behind the dash they will know what you mean.

To install you pop the plastic surround out around your gear selector then undo 3 screws at the bottom of the face place, then pop the faceplate off and you can then see the vacumme box up the back, just a matter of unplugging the old one and plugging in the new one.

This will fix your vent issues.

a noise behind the glovebox is the blower fan yes, you should be able to goto a wrecker and get another one, not sure how easy or hard it is to replace i havn't had to do one yet.

So i spoke to holden they suggest the Vacuum box as well for the vents.

As for the other issue they suggested to replace the Fan Solenoid, standard one is about 72.10 but coz mine is climate control its nearly 300 bucks. Apparently they are common to go in them and they hardly have ever had to replace the fans. The Solenoid measures the temp and controls the vent speed.

lets hope this fixes the problem

The noise in your fan could be caused by leaves etc. being sucked in to the fan motor. You can access the fan motor by removing the glove box which may allow you to get at any debris. Replacing the fan motor is normally a big job.

    sounds like your icing up!!

icing up will cause you to notice hot air or not cold air through the vents as the unit has iced up and not allowing the air to flow through, it than warms up and than the ice melts and it seems ok again.

usually happins when the unit is set to recirulate and the outside air can not warm it up to melt the ice

just a thought, i have seen it before many times
