Unhappy Custom Steering wheel - Air bag light - PROBLEM!

    gday everyone,
a few months ago i got the shits coz i nearly had an acca and i punched the steering wheel,
i have a vs, with airbags, and when i hit it, i mustve knocked something loose
coz i was driving home and as i was going around a corner the steering wheel got stuck... so i turned really hard and heard a snap noise, and a few seconds later the airbag light came on... i got home alright, but i opened it up and noticed a weird looking screw type thing had fallen out of its place in the steering wheel... the next day, i got a custom wheel with boss kit and all that jazz, installed it, and now everything is going fine

my problem is that obviously the airbag light is still on, my mechanic wont pass it for a pinky, coz he is stingy... ive got a month before my rego is due, is there anything i can do myself to avoid buying a new standard wheel just to get rego...???

(ive noticed alot of you guys are mechanics, unfortunately im not so i cant write my own pinky haha that would rock)

    thanks fellas

When VT'S First come out there was a couple in Frankston (Suburb Near Me) They were so excited to have their new high powered V8 all they watned to do was change a few things to suite their taste. The First was arse-hole the airbag for the same setup your running, 7 days exactly after they did they did it, they managed to lose control of the car and hit a parked one, the female driver was killed instantly due to head injuries cuased from the fancy steering wheel she put on. The police made a statment (and plea) to everyone that has done something similar not to do it, if she had of left it she would still be alive.

True story no shit, take from it what you want man, but these things are there for a reason, you may be the best driver in the world but someone else might not be.

As for your problem the mechanic that is writing the roadworthy should have the skills and tools to help you around your problem.

    +1 for Smit.

Put a wheel with the airbag back on it b4 its defected.

And the only way the airbag light can be taken off is by holden for around $55

Sounds like you may have damaged the clock spring. This will activate the air bag lamp.

Put an ABS wheel back on for you own good.

no airbag at all will activate the light.

first turn of the key without the airbag and the lights permanent until holden resets it. which is pointless because A. theres no airbag and B. holden wont do it illegaly. there has to be an airbag to be roadworthy if the vehicle came standard with one.

Your mechanic is not being stingy, just following the rules.

I realise that, I was just trying to explain that the clockspring may have been damaged when the screw fell out and to refit the original wheel may not resolve the issue.
I thought it fairly obvious that the lack of an air bag will activate the light.

Right... so your not being stingy by not replacing the parts that you broke in the first place?
