hey guys,
my vr v6 auto has been making this weird fan belt like screeching noise for the past few days. only problem is that its not coming from the engine bay but under the car itself. happens when its at idle or low revs and it is not very loud but pesky because i dunno where to even start looking.... maybe exhaust??? any help appreciated guys
would the trans make this sorta noise at all????
is the trans filled up enough, or possibly overfull? if you overfill it the fluid aerates and can bump and squawk.
WD40 your idler pulley and spray some belt grip on the belt to eliminate this as the source, just make sure your belt isnt in shitty condition or it will snap.
ok ill try these few options 1st will triple check the fluid tom mornin. hopefully i wnt hav 2 get new trans.. but on plus side if worse case, i can get manual conversion![]()
I have seen harmonic balancers make a similar noise, but it should be able to be heard in the engine bay.It might be worth checking it out though, make sure theres no wobble in it when the engine is idling. And check for movement with a screwdriver.Lever it back and forth,it should be solid.
ok guys, checed flud, sweet as. harmonic balancer ill check when it cools down later on tonite. i rekon it may b the exhaust?????
just asking but how did you check the fluid level, as some people make the mistake as to checking it when the engine isnt running....
yes im not that sillyengine was running and checked afta short drive and was all sweet
Try turning the interior fan/AC off....I've known the fan to make a squeal which then sounds like it's from under the car.
ok guys looks like its definately exhaust nowill try the fan thing tom when i drive it. cheers to those who gave input
