Default Lost 4th and Reverse on VS Auto - need help

My 1996 VS lost reverse and will not select 4th either. Drives fine in other gears. I took the pan off and it was clean with no metal shavings, the fluid is not burnt either. As a test I changed around the shift solenoids and put it all back together as I thought it may have been a shift solenoid. This did not make any difference. When I took of the solenoid on the left hand side it sprung off but the one on the right did not. I could feel the shaft in there though.

Does this mean the box is stuffed? Is it a broken shell? I do have another 6HDD but it was slipping and I have a good 4HDD but from what I have read this will not work due to electrical difference. If I was to change the valve body of the slipping box onto mine would this have be likely to work? Or can I modify the 4HDD to fit the VS?

Any ideas/suggestions? Does anyone in North QLD have a 6HDD for sale?

Plugs are different - trust me (as the bishop said to the actress). Do a fault code test...if the solenoids were gone it will show up:Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)
The 4HDD can be modified to fit the VS but I do not know the secret....but it has been done.
It may be a broken sunshell and if so you will find out very soon (all drive will be lost)
Seeing as you are playing with the transmission which I greatly admire (and am jealous of as I love pulling things apart) look at this link:

And welcome to the forum + good luck.

So what did you do about the different plugs? Did you have to change the tailshaft extension for the speed sensor? Do you think you did not have problems because it has a shift kit fitted? I say this because of what others have posted but in saying that there are a lot of posters that comment who have not actually done this?

Has anyone else fitted a 4HDD in place of a 6HDD and how did it go and what modifications were required.

I had a look at pulling a box to bits and it looks like a nightmare, I have rebuilt many manual transaxles years ago but not keen to take on an auto, just want a quick easy and cheap changeover.

A pix of the pug that connects to the transmission would be great to see as well. This question keeps coming up with no real answer.

hey you do have to to change to things in your box yes you do have to change the plug the only diffence is the 6hdd has a solanoid for the converter clutch and the 4hdd does not. on my 4hdd must of had the plug changed because two of the wires have been cut at the plug. but for wankas like hako that think they got to been always right maybe my box was modifed i dont know i brought it got told it would fit and it did. but sure there will like to be something else would u like to say

I suggest you read my post again where I ask for a picture of the modified plug if possible - this is to help others who ask the same question.....
also my first post where I say that the plugs are different - you then agree that this is so.
This is a forum where we collectively help each other....in a friendly manner

I object to you saying "but for wankas like hako that think they got to been always right"

If that's how you feel about me please advise the administrators....I certainly am.

No problems...I figure a simple misunderstanding. It would be great if you could post the pix of the plug and the wiring as this question keeps coming up time and time again.
    Good Luck
