air con wont start

just wondering why me air con wont work when i push the button the pump wont start the green light on the button comes on but nothing happens any ideas..

well it has been a car yard 4 a while and i dont no how to check if it has any gas

If the compressor pulley doesn't spin on then there is no or little gas in the system.
