1997 VS S Pack series 2 Gearbox Help

Can anyone tell me are the Gearboxes of a 1997 Vs S Pack series 2 and a VR ( unsure of year ) the same ? my gear box is in need of replacing and a mate has a VR that has a near new reco box in which i can have for $250 if they will match up

I have been searching high and low all over the web for an answer to this question and i cant find anything. is this possible ? is it exact match or will it be more than a drop out and drop in ?

You don't state whether auto or manual but in both cases the answer is no. The auto swap from VR to VS has been covered many many times and here is the most recent post: Replaced my 4HDD box in my VR with a 6HDD
