Default Monroe GT's on Berlina wagon, all round

    Hi all,

Just wanting to see what people think of a Monroe GT's for a VS Berlina Wagon,

Its not lowered at all because I quite like standard ride height,

I might order a set through my mate at Repco

Last time my mechanic touched my car he said the whole rear shockers and bushes have had it

So its time to get out the Rattel gun and Spring compressors

I've the GT Gas shocks & struts in my V8 FE2 sedan and they seem fine to me. Nice and firm.

Also had them in my V8 FE2 VK sedan and they were good in that as well.

    NEWS FLASH

    Monroe make GM's shocks.

So...... they wont perform much different unless you lower it and get shortened GT Sport.

A few things have changed since the VT's came out though. But overall there wont be much difference to installing new stock shocks.

Yeah you can't go wrong with Monroe, mate, I just dropped a set in the back of the VY. Also standard ride height.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'

my personal opinion, avoid gt gas. they're ok initially, but get 'choppy' when they wear in. can't comment on gt sport but everyone i've spoken to says they're better than gt gas

GT Gas = For a standard height vehicle (has preasurised gas.)

GT Sport = For lowered springs (shortened shock) Alot stiffer and less responsive as GT Gas, Pretty sure their oil shocks but not 100%

As you can see there is alot of difference.

If it's in the budget, forget Monroe (of any sort) and get Koni.

    Massive difference.

For the same price range, KYB make a much better shock in my opinion after owning both.

If its in the budget why not get coilovers if u can afford it?

And Ill agree with SweetWagon. Alot of people swear by KYB. their just a lil more expensive but not much.

Sorry to move off topic guys but i have a similar question and would rather not start another thread. I am currently looking at these Monroe GT Sport Struts/Shocks for my Holden VS Ute with King Spring Superlows.

MONROE GT SPORT LOWERED SHOCKS & STRUTS VS VT VX VY VZ - eBay Shocks, Struts, Suspension, Steering, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 13-Feb-10 20:58:07 AEDST)

My question is over the stock shocks/struts, how big an improvement can i except? Would it be worth the money and what else should i get with them except lowered rear bumpstops?

    Thanks
    Matt.

Nah ur just about set.. Might want to get new strut bearings though. They dont come with the front shocks and theyll be worn to shit.

Improvment wise... it wont be bouncy anymore. Youll feel all the bumps though as you would with lowered shocks

Is there a such thing as front bumpstops and if so how do they work? Also how much are the strut bearings usually and any bushes that will need replacing you think? Or they can be done after?

So if i go ahead with it afterwards ill have about 2inchs of travel at the rear, how about the front? And yes i noticed the bounciness, i dont mind the bumps just as long as it settles down quicker. Eg The bump just being a bump would be good instead of the associated bounce that goes with it.

jokerflingo... ive just installed Monroe GT sports shocks and king springs. Id recommend them.. though id be buying new strut top bearings nolathane make them they go for about $180 on ebay.

'Ozzie' is right the bearings will probably fall out when/if you take the shockers apart, well mine did anyway as after 200,000k thed had a hassle.

When the front king spring superlows went in with a m8's help im guessing the strut top bearing went back in as there were? Or weren't they hassled since i didn't replace the struts, i cant remember much of it.

EDIT: Hold on a bit is coming back to me, i believe when we were trying to get one of the strut top bearings off it split and the ball bearings went everywhere? Is this what we are talking about and if so i am guessing thats bad. So if i need new ones do i try and get the genuine or at least factory spec or do try and get heavier duty ones etc?
