ac problem sometime goes sometime doesn't

hey guys just a quick question about my aircon in my vs s2 wagon. someday the aircon wont turn on, no air comes out of the vents even on full and the aircon light wont turn on. but other days specially cruisin down the highway aircon will just suddenly turn on and be icy cold. just wondering wats going on.

do you think there would be a loose connection somewhere. got no idea. but when it does work the aircon is very cold. please help as i really need ac got to kids under 2 and been real hot lately and wen raining sucks cause we either get wet with windows down or real hot and misty with windows up

My oldies VP was doing a similar thing,I tracked it down to a bad electrical connection at one of the AC pressure switches.Check the wiring and the connectors on the AC pressure switches.
Turn on the AC and fan and move the wiring around ,if theres a bad connection,you should be able to hear or see the AC compressor cut in and out as the wiring near the bad connection is moved.

You say that "no air comes out of the vents even on full and the aircon light wont turn on"...that would suggest to me that there is a problem with the actual speed selector switch or in the power supply to the switch. Have you removed the radio or centre console lately ....if so you may have dislodged a wire.
There is a fuse in the engine compartment for auto/ac...check that. Also a 30A fusible link. Both these are located where the relays are.
One way to test is have engine idling and A/C on, pop bonnet and wiggle wires around the relay box plus relays....same for under the dash. If air comes on you will know whats loose. Good Luck.

yea have recently removed all centre console and and and were the speedo and hazard lights are to paint. thats wat i thought it would be that must be a loose wire somewhere because i took all wires of to remove all console area. thanks hako and bret jjj for quick post. painted all black plastic areas tropicana green looks prity good aye. gonna get 18% tint on the whole car next week for my bday. and looking for a nice set of wheels n tyres 18".anyone got a set they looking to get rid of? around 200ks radius from the gold coast.

hi i have had the same problem.

i have a bad altenator. when alterntor is playing up and the battery light comes on the airconditioning system is disabled to conserver power in the battery.
when the battery light gose out after a few minitues the air con is reengaged.

Have the alternator tested.

hopefully this fixes your problem.

thanks mate. i dont get the battery light though and im prity sure my alternator is fine. gonna leave for now.

got my car tinted 5% on sides and 18% rear. looks sweet but cause your not allowed to put your windows down for 48 hours was driving and this time aircon wasnt working so i was just driping with sweat had to get to work. running late and couldnt wind windows down and aircon not working. got to work basically drenched in sweat wasnt good feeling.

will pull centre console and dash now and check if i have a loss connection somewhere.
