While coming home the other day the motor started giving that lack of fuel feel under load, stuttering.
It even backfired on me.
I did replace the spark plugs and leads and felt a bit better but it didn’t completely solve the problem.
On flat road and light acceleration no signs but up a hill it all starts playing up.
Any thoughts what else I should be looking for.?
It might be a faulty coil, they break down under load.Borrow a coil from a mate and try it where each of your 3 coils go.The numbers on them dont matter, they are all the same. You can test them with a multimeter, but I have seen them show to be ok on a multimeter and still cause misfiring. Also check for any error codes.Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)
The other thing I forgot to mention is sometimes say 1 in 30 starts the motor takes quite a few goes in getting it started, this never seems to be a problem when cold only when hot.
This can take upto 20 tries and 15-20 mins..it varies
I'd go with Bretts advice - check for error codes. Unless you do this, the cause of your problem is anyone's guess.
Had a spare coil I carry around with me just in case.
Just had the chance swapping it out and took it for a drive and seems to be ok
I was always under the impression when they failed the whole motor stopped working.
Your advice was much appreciated
cheers
FYI: if a coil is breaking down, it'll still run but its like if a lead is broken and do as you described ( unless its a series 1 VN then it won't lol )
We got rep back, yaaay!
Yep mine done the same thing.
Just replaced the leads with some 10mm ones and problems gone.
I was talking to my mate at the Holden Service center and its a common problem after 100,00 kms. the fiberglass strands over the carbon threads breaks down with heat over time..
This is the sort of stuff that happens when the kids get into Dads tool box over weekend.
