    Default aircon fuel consumption

any idea how much fuel the aircon uses?

I used to get around 10-12L/100kms without aircon, which needed repairing, then, when i fixed it, I get aroun 12-14L/100kms for the same driving in the same climate.

I do use it quite a bit i have to admit.

does this seem normal for a VSII ecotec NA? yesterday it even touched 14.2L/100kms!!!

You'd have to do a back to back to be sure - couple of tanks with A/C, a couple with it off but that doesn't seem an unreasonable difference.

The amount of extra fuel used with A/C depends on ambient temp., trip time - the A/C will cycle off for longer when maintaining temp. than it will while reducing it, vent control position and fan speed. Recirc. and low fan speed will reduce the fuel used over fresh and high fan speed. Shutting vents so as to direct air to only occupied seats in the car will help also.

I did over 5000 km last month with ac going most of the time. Mixture of city and open road driving and averaged 10.8l/100km.

I do a mixture of city and urban driving, including several times in peak hour.
my aircon was stuffed for three months, and then i got it fixed. my driving hasn't changed, it's still the same going to work and back, only difference is the aircon is on...

I usually set it to recycle air, speeds 2-4

well, divide the number of liters used by the number of kilometers and then multiply by 100 lol

    simple mathematics.

I always fill up to the same point so i'm quite accurate.

I recently did a bit of work on my car inregards to my Valley Gaskets,

I used to drive a lot with Air/Con on Auto due to it being a Berlina, mainly because it works extremely well once the inside temp cools to the desired temperature (mostly 19c - 21c) considering its a Wagon

Before doing valley gaskets I noticed a giant drop in performance with A/c on (only should be a small drop) and i was using 14.2L whilst in City and 10.8L on Highway

Now that the Valley's are done, and after hitting "Auto a/c" there isn't a much difference to performance, and its doing 13.1L per 100 in City, and best ever on the Highway was 9.2L and not having A/c on I got an amazing 8.7L on the Highway

My mechanic says that due to the better AirFlow and the minor increase to compression the motor doesn't have to work as hard to keep a nice Pressure, ultimately dealing with A/c Better

This isn't always the case said my Mechanic, but it is something to think about, he did say that my Valley's were the worst he has seen in while and Oil was making a pretty good attempt to make its way out,
