Hi, I've got a 1993 Holden VR V6 Auto.
So far i have lowered the car, got sports suspension, 2.5 Inch Exhaust and XHP 18'' Rims.
I'm looking to get more acceleration from the engine and more performance.
I'm getting a CAI and Extractors.
What would be some other mods that would give the engine some more performance for under $1000?
Thanks, Julian
Buick and Ecotec V6 Performance Upgrades
The search button is also a useful tool.
oooh that nos kit looks tempting.
2 big bottles?
where do you get nitrous from after youve used it though?
the nitrous shop![]()
Shame its not legal in QLD : (
Alot of performance shops do bottle refills. Hallam Performance here in Melbourne do them.

What sort of internal upgrades would you have to do to support a shot of nitrous?
Couldn't you go to the likes of BOC or Kleenheat or whoever you local gas distributor is and get the gas refilled? I'm fairly certain they stock nitrous oxide as it has other uses than making your car go fast and they would probably be cheaper than a performace shop, but I could be wrong. Couldn't hurt to call up either way.
1. 1990 VN Exec V6
2. 1993 VP BT1 3.8L - Now wrecking for parts!
3. 1991 VP Berlina V8 - RIP
Looking for a good condition VN - VS V8!!!
I'd say BOC and Kleenheat aren't licensed / allowed to refill Nitrous bottles that are for car / performance use, as having a nitrous system connected in your car on the street is illegal.

Best bang for buck on a V6, especially when matched up with a set of Pacemaker extractors, single 2.5" catback, shift kit + servo and a supercharged 6 CAI with a K&N panel filter.
If you aren't factoring in the Pacies and exhaust into your $1000 spend, the super 6 CAI, shift kit + servo, panel filter and tune SHOULD cost you (give or take a few bucks), under $650 including labour for the shift kit.
Or you could blow your whole $1000 on rockers, then add labour, and the gain would be less than if you went with the gear i mentioned above.
The ol' Buick 3.8L V6's go alright in my book. Better torque than the Ecotec's as well. I had a VP V6 with everything i mentioned above, it went pretty well for a V6. You just have to get some air flowing through them and they are alright!

I don't agree with the above two comment you could got a set of roller rockers for around $800 through Yella Terra DON'T BE A GIRL AND SPEND AN EXTRA $3-400 DOLLARS FOR SOMEONE TO INSTALL IT DO IT YOURSELF. It will or should be the best gain you will get from a single mod compared to what you have already.
If you get it for $800 or cheaper depends if YT have a sale on you will still have $200 to spend on a tune from Greenfoam to get even more power and then have $100+ petrol money to enjoy it with.
I bought and fitted my roller rockers + mildly worked heads for under $600. That included gaskets, fluids and filters for when I reassembled, plus the spacers and longer bolts I needed for the rocker covers.
I still maintain that the price for a brand new set of roller rockers is too much for the gain. For the $800 you spend on them, might as well go and buy a VS.
There's a guy that fills nos bottles at all the drag racing events in Victoria, only the bottles from the kits, The boc bottles I guess any gas shop can refill/swap
under a grand, if you are already getting the exhaust, CAI (with a hi-flow filter) and extractors, I would PM one of the chip guys mentioned above (because they all have a decent rep), and then go and get some decent diff gears.
Thats what I'd do

Where do you get Nissan Turbo Chargers from???
Are they easy to install??
Do Extractors Make the exhaust sound louder????
Do you install YT Roller Rockers by simply taking the rocker covers off and removing the stock ones and replacing them by using a torque wrench???
By replacing the stock ones with high strength ones does this mean i can rev the sh*t out off my car with out it blowing up????
I wanna start drag racing and doing quarter mile racing.
Is a V8 TB VN throttle body the biggest throttle body that the engine can take with out doing any thing to the plenum? Will running the engine at 3000rpm for 8 seconds reset the computer ??? It's a auto.
I live in Bendigo, as i'm close to melbourne is there any good reliable Holden V6 Performance shops around???
I'm after a Performance Chip?? any ideas thanks,
