    Default VS overheating help needed

My cars been overheating lately. I took it to get it fixed, mechanic flushed the system and changed the radiator but this didn't help. The problem occurs when I'm idling or in traffic, the temp gauge rises and wont stop until I either park it or hit clear air/freeway. When I open the bonnet, the water is coming out of the plastic container coolant reservoir (not from the radiator cap, sorry don't know the name of it). When i open the radiator cap slightly (with a towel because it's too hot to touch), the water starts pouring out of that reservoir, and it is boiling. There doesn't appear to be any leaks as the water level stays the same in the radiator providing the car has not overheated. The colour of the water in the radiator is a brown, rusty colour (btw i would normally use coolant but keep having to refill it with water after getting desperate). Any advice on what the problem could be? I've searched the forums but cant find my problem. I know next to nothing about cars, please help!

    Thank you!

Take it back to your mechanic. He hasn't tested the car before giving it back.
If the water is brown and rusty then he hasn't flushed it when fitting the radiator.
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

how far up does the needle go and do your thermo fans kick in? ,alot of the ecotecs will go upto about 2 3rds when idling untill the thermo fan kicks in then slowly come back down.
also does it over heat with the aircon on?

Ive recently has all this happen. Dont kill me for saying it, its my husbands car, its a ford. But started the same way, temp going up over 3/4 except on freeways. Then by the end of the day was losing water out the overflow. Listened underbonnet and fan sounded quiet. Got racv out, Diagnosed high fan not working on its own. And radiator cap stuffed. So replaced fan relay and radiator cap, and no change. Sent car to be fixed, the wiring to both fans was replaced and working fine. However the idiot guy who was sent by the mechanic to drive it back to me had the radiator hose blow out on it 10 minutes from my place. Alarm bells are going off for me thinking all the blow outs and leaks are more likely a symptom of a bigger problem and the pressure is just forcing its way out of the weakest points iykwim? He fixes that and says to keep an eye on it. Turns out its running hotter than it was when I sent it to be fixed.
In the end its had the fans fixed, radiator cap and a new thermostat. But a full workup showed the radiator was in fact half blocked and in turn the overheating has blown the headgasket now because these twits didnt put it on a tow truck to get it back and forth, but drove it from Melton to out off the Monash somewhere. Im glad they are the ones footing the repair bill in all this.

Sorry it was so longwinded. Wanted to get the sequence of events that I tried the process of elimination with the car first.

It appears as if it was just a broken fan. I took it back to the mechanic, and since I've got it back I haven't had overheating trouble. Thanks everyone for the replies :-)
