    Default possable fubared wheel bearing?

    hey all

just a thought, ive got a 94 VR with around 220 kms,

what the problem im having is when the car is cold (ie in the morning) the wheel or wheels will squeek for a minuite and then stop, and still make the sound down around a idle rolling speed also,

now the main reason im thinking maybe front left wheel bearing is that anything over 65kms i have a viabration in the wheel, but its almost a grinding noise.

if i turn right (weight on bearing) it will grind and shake the wheel but if i turn left (weight off wheel) its smooth and no issues so yeah

    what do you fellas think

    cheers

Id be checking the wheel hub/bearings as soon as you can.If the wheel comes off who knows what damage or injuries it could cause.Jack it up and push-pull at the top and bottom of the wheel and check for any movement, also spin the wheel and listen to the bearing for any unusual noises. These hubs are sealed and the bearings cant be replaced. The whole hub assembly is replaced as a unit.Phone around,I got quoted from $190 to $450 each side. The $190 quote was from holden, which is who I ended up getting them through. That was for a VS,but I think they are the same.

Jack it up and give it a spin by hand and check side to side and up and down free-play.

    Smile vr steering

what needs to happen is car jacked up with 2 stands , and have a good look while turning the hub and disc see if any movement in lower control bush where it pivots in the frame inner bush there may be chewed out, if so remove lower control arm and get the old bush pressed out, or whats left of the rubber bush and steel insert has got to come out, quicker by press and new bush installed, bush comes in kit of two, i got quotes today 6o to 125 bucks, just for 2 bushes, if a bush goes it puts extra strain on the hub bearing assy and they die , with mine it was the passenger side bush and the drivers side hub so there may be a pattern there, with the hub bearing, quoted $50 second hand and 100 -130 new but watch out for china ones, apparently on recall. if you have abs i have a pair of hubs here second hand in good nic, but i have no standard hubs without abs. If you take out control arm, may as well do the radius rod(z bar ) bushes where it mount thru the frame 50 on ebay. you need a few tools and some knowledge to do the above, some you may not have and its impossible without. expect a few hundred if lucky at the specialist just to do above. unfortunate to spend this money on an oldish car, thats why i do my own repairs when I can. cheers LUCKY LUCAS VR MY RIDE TOO, DUAL FUEL WAY TO GO
