mates helping me rebuilding the buick. anything we should/shouldn't do, look out for, things we should replace while were at it.

Are you just rebuilding the top-end? (heads, pushrods, lifters, and cam)?
we were planning on only doing this. but i can't go without my car for that long (have to drive to work) I thought we might be able to do it in a weekend. so instead im getting another buick engine (ebay atm $10 winning!) and gonna fully rebuild that and swap it over.
what do you think?
Make sure its a seriesII.
winwinwinwinwin............... thats a good idea getting the second motor to pull down.
Do the whole lot, then slide a big cam in, and go lumping around
Should sound hornier than a 3headed rhino!!!
ahahah
i'm keen. depending on price id wanna get one of those
ACL race rebuild kits. not sure if i can afford cams lol maybe just higher ratio rockers from mace then they get made.
shudder isn't brakes
1. because it's take off
2. discs were machined and new pads already
wasn't harmonic balancer.
edit: gotta go to work now, will be online in roughly an hour.![]()
Yeah if its not brakes, maybe you should do that trans service sooner rather than later......
Mates missus' VR had a shudder on take off, replaced harmonic balancer, no change, week later gearbox shit itself.
yeah I'd service it ASAP.
Get the ACL race-series, and cam and lifters should only be around the $500 mark.
Get new valves springs, maybe some stainless valves, and your mace rockers and she'll be sweet.
Drop the heads off at your local guru and get him to acid-dip them, port them and put 'em back together
And get yourself a greenfoam tune
Then you'll have a 9.9:1comp, VR 3800 V6 with a lumpy cam, 7000rpm limit (there abouts),
pacemakers, big 'zorst, She'll be wicked.
Maybe even get some injectors and a Walbro fuel-pump for it too.........
yeah, how do I check the gearbox mounts, what should I be looking out for?
where can I buy those ACL kits from in VIC?
did you say rebuild kit, cam AND lifters for $500?
lol, no. cam and lifters for around 500bucks
rebuild kit through any engine reco'er, or autobarn/repco/bursons/super-dodgy?
Just check the rubbers that go between the mount and the vehicle body - check for stress/cracks/etc.
yeah that sounds more like it lol. could you post some links?
names of engine good reco'ers? (will use autobarn or whatever if I have to)
heres the engine i'm bidding on, can you tell if it's series 2 or not? (should be it's from a VR).
edit: id like to get a decent shift kit in it too (minus the chirpies :P) can you recommend anything?
Yeah its a SeriesII, from a VR.
Good luck with a decent reco'er. Im still looking around here.
I know theres one around here who's pretty good value, though i haven't seen any of his work so i can't recommend him.

Prices are just ballpark I got from Autobarn in town
sweet thanks
$10 looks like a bit of a steal eh?![]()
You just hope it doesnt have a mass internal problem.
But yes, a steal for that price.
^^^ Yeah as long as the block/bores/and heads are in decent nick you'll be sweet
well it was apparently running when it was taken at. so should be sweet, even sweeter after a rebuild![]()
known problem with holdens center bearing in the drive shaft needs replacing
