Fuel pump is in the tank under the tray. Best to get a gregorys manual or similar.

Are you sure it is the fuel pump that's buggered - when they fail it is usually a complete stop as they either work or they don't.....maybe it's just the fuel filter.

If it makes any difference when it stalled I stomped in the tray above the fuel tank and it started again. But it was still chugging

Lol, well im guessing it may have something to do with it, but as was said above usually these pumps just cark it, not a slow death, although i know a m8 that went through everything on a vs sedan and it ended up being the fuel pump after 300,000kms.

make sure you get a genuine pump if you find out thats the problem, the non genuine ones are not the same and i still had the same problem you had until i put a genuine one in there.

does it die when you go around right hand corners with a bit of speed too with a low fuel load?

Yeah sometimes it did die going around corners wit 1/4 tank. I just put a new filter in it and it was good. I drove around the block twice and now it won't start again. Maybe it's my injecters

you stomped on the tank and it started again.

    Vapour lock in the tank?

Take the tank cover off, turn the car to 'ON', can you hear the pump prime for a second or so?

Yeah, I jumpped in the tray and stomped ova the tank and it started but not well. And just then I started it but was chugging hard and when I press the excelerater it sounded like lots of air was coming outta the bay and it made things worse. Maybe I just need a pump ... When I put it to acceseries it kinda buzzes like a zzzzzz. I've heard it's mention to tick?

If the fuel pump is priming for 2 seconds when the key is turned to on,it is more likely to be a blocked fuel filter.Or it might be the fuel pressure regulator.I just read that the filter was replaced and it went good for a while,it might have dirt in the tank.

not your injectors, for that to happen more than one would need to stop working at the same time. Your car will still run on 5 cylinders. You got more chance of winning lotto than finding your injectors being the problem.

    Change your pump.

I have the exact same problem with my VS ute mate, plenty of chugging, i smell fuel and i can hear the pump making a strange moaning sound when i turn on my acessories, it is meant to make a little buzz for 2 seconds but mine literally moans, and it does'nt sound good at all. I have a brand new genuine fuel pump ready to be installed but i have'nt had time to do it yet. I have been told that the fuel pump is the problem and once i put the new one in , everything will run normal.

This is getting more than a joke now. Today the fuel pump decides to work, like what the? So the car started and all so I left it running for about 10 then it started chugging again, could the pump be faulty? It is electrical, maybe it runs a bit then dies?

the pump may have an issue when hot. in theory the fuel is used to cool the pump, but they can still get warm. just replace it...

There is a known problem especially with utes where they die on corners when the tank is less than 1/4 full - this is due to the fuel return hose getting either dislodged from the swirl pot or split/broken. This problem usually occurs after the pump has been replaced. Do a search and you will find plenty of examples.
The way to double check oif this is the case is whether the car runs OK on a full tank....if it does then it indicated the problem mentioned above.
Other things that can affect your fuel supply are the fuel pump relay and the oil pressure switch which will play up if saturated with degreaser plus the fuel filter as mentioned in my previous post.
If it was me, I'd be doing the easy checks first before going to all the hassle of fitting a new pump only to find it was the fuel filter/relay/OPS.
