Ok this is kinda weird, I took my airbox out of my VS V6 today to paint it, put it back on, cleaned some of my engine bay with some grime and bug removers stuff...
Driving home this evening, the fuel guage dropped, reading that I had almost no fuel (LPG) left where I should have had a 95% full tank (as I'd filled it up the previous day and barely driven) switched over to Petrol and it read fine....
However, when revving or accelerating it makes a sharp whistling sound, or a sharp 'sucking' sound. And it idles very roughly...but is fine when it revs.
I have no idea whats going on here. Going to take it to the mechanic tomorrow, just wanted to know if someone has had the same problem or whether someone knows what might have happened?
Cheers!
???? i didnt find any of those problems funny![]()
Funny as in I can't work out what the problem is...haha I had a couple of beers before I wrote it...kinda tired![]()
does it sorta sound like you have a supercharger on. like , sucking in air ?
Yeah bro, like a very sharp sucking in sound. Not a normal induction sound though...
I disconnected it, but then I swear I put it back in, it clipped in allright..but that doesn't explain why it's not reading the full tank of fuel and the rough idle?????
I dont no about the LPG.
But you said you took the air box out there could be a air leak somewere.
When there is a air leak in the intake duct the car will idle rough. So just check if there is no leak.
yeh i was thinking the same thing . there must be a leak
Well it's now reading the fuel which is a start...I took the airbox out and made sure everything was in properly, it idles better but still rough, can't think where else to look, the rest of the intake pipe is ok, then the LPG air mixer system is tapped onto the pipe so unless there is a problem in that.
Bottom line is, it's still idleing slightly rough.
Hay again
Just looking for a diagram for fuel system for this commodore and more so the return side of it thanks
what does your fuel diagram have to do with the subject of this thread? search to see if the topic has been covered before, if not post a new thread.
double check your AFM but if it keeps doing it have a look at the hose that go's from the gas converter (i think) that travels downways towards the floor.. last time this happened to me on gas the hose at a split in it..easy fix
Is the air temp sensor on the airbox connected?
Hey mate, you MAY have a gas leak somwhere, i know when my car has **** all gas left it sounds exactly like you described, so that could explain the gauge reading wrong, does it make the sound on petrol too?
Thanks for all your reply's guys. I ended up fixing the problem.
There is a small plastic hose (encased in rubber) that runs from the bottom of the throttle body, under the plenum and through the heads to a set of two plugs at the back left of the engine near the Trans Lock. The hose had been blown off when it backfire when the Air Temp Sensor wasn't connected properly.
So if anyone encounters this problem in the future. Check that hose![]()
ohh thats common.. i wrapped duck tape around the bit that you connect the hose onto so its a tighter fit... was happening to mine heaps to.
must be an LPG thing i suppose?
no seriously mate you don't understand how insufficiently short the pipe was. I'd stick it in half a cm one side and it would pop out the other side. I have no idea why it was that short. Super Glue is no problem, just cut the pipe and slip another hose rubber on the connectors.
