My VS has progressivlly gotten worse over the last dew weeks at not starting. If you put the key in and go to start all the accessories etc come up but when you go to start there is nothing. the radio and lights go back out and there is no noise from the starter motor or anything. I know this is a common issue when terminals arnt on correctly but if you take the key out and try it again it will go. Its been getting worse in that you have to take the key out and put it back in and try again a number of times now before it will start.
Has anyone had this issue and know how to fix it ?
At a guess I'd say the ignition switch (behind the ignition key) is faulty. Another guess is that the inhibiter switch is out of adjustment - check by trying to start in Neutral instead of Park.
My third guess is the key reader is playing up in some way - check by pressing the unlock button whilst the ignition light are on the turn further to start.
Final thought - the keyhead has a brass nipple that must make contact with the chome ring around the ignition keyhole when you insert the key - make sure it contacts this ring as it unlocks the immobiliser.
One of hako's ideas will be it for sure, check your error codes, it will tell you right away if there is any logged immobiliser issues (suggesting its the keyhead) Though first try starting it in N instead (when you do this make sure you havn't just unlocked the doors, as i believe the central locking turns off the immobiliser for a short time)
my friend has the same thing goin on let us know how you go
my 5L started off back firing and miss firing then it would stall every now and then and i replaced the ignition module and it still wont start up just turns over
if you have no luck with all that was mentioned try replacing your key reader, (this will work for all vr - vz commodores v6 or v8 ) the key readers wear a grove in them and no longer reads the key.
also does your security light flash when you try and start it if so it will be the key reader. (also unlocking the car should stop the immobliser with the remote)
