Not sure what the hell is going on here, but i have a 1995 VS Commodore Executive that is having a strange water leak that seems almost ethereal to my mechanic.
Let me explain -:
In November last year i was driving for about an hour on hot night back home when all of a sudden i noticed my legs were getting very hot but the air con was on and blowing cool air towards my face so the contrast between hot and cold was immediately noticeable, so i then looked at the temp gauge and it was red lining!
I immediately pulled the car over and looked beneath the car only to find water leaking out everywhere in the middle position wise from left to right of the car and from the front of the car to the firewall in middle also, so the leak was centralized under the engine.
I took the car to the mechanic, found that some of the car electrics had been fried, the fuel pump had shit itself ..etc.. but the guy could not find why the car the was leaking water and after refilling it with water and doing a pressure test, nothing was wrong!????
So i took the car back and all was fine up until tonight when i took the car for a very short drive only to find it has happened again (i had the air con on) with water leaking out of the same place. Now i know that it is water from the radiator because its green (coolant) so its origin is not the issue.
I will add that the car is dual fuel LPG/Petrol and in that both times that this has happened i had refilled the water reservoir (the plastic container) on the left side of the engine at the very top to about half way. Could it be that i have overfilled the reservoir and that something is just popping under the pressure and forcing all the water out?
Anyone got any idea's as to what might be causing this?![]()
Doubt it has anything to do with the reservoir, probably a gasket or a hose leak i would assume.
most defentaly the heater core or hose connections that go through the firewall..If they done a compression test when it was cold it may have not showed up..crack can open up when warm especialy in alloy..
No you're not right. The pressure will be applied through both sides of the circuit. Think of the heater as a circular pipe with a radiator cap type hole somewhere on it's circumference. If you put pressure through that opening but block the pipe somewhere else on it's circumference.. Will it leak? Of course because the pressure is equally applied to both sides of the blockage(heater tap).
edit: Will it leak? think of drilling a hole on either side of the block(tap).
Oh shit, last time a heater core (on my previous car, a VN) shit itself it ended up costing a bit to fix, will it be the same this time around with the VS if it is the heater core?
And thanks for all your help thus far guys, it really is appreciated
One more thing that i will add and i only really just realized this, but it appears that both times when this has happened i had pushed the pedal a bit hard (not really something i normally do) and gave the car sudden jolt of power and straight after (well tonight especially) i could feel the car lose power momentarily which told me something was a little wrong and of course the leak was the cause of that sudden power loss for which the power then came back after it lasted only about 2 seconds.
Not sure if that extra bit of info makes any difference, but if what you guys are saying is right, then with the car being hot and sudden rush of pressure being present from my temporary lead foot it may have forced an already present crack open again.
Mechanically the car is fine though in every respect and the i look after the car, so its running very smooth, just this water issue.

Haven`t done it myself.
