ok so on fridy i replaced the rear control arm bushes with nylothane and the centre bearing and the vs was a smooth ride once again.. but thne came nite time and it started vibrating a bit on take off thru most gears. so i stopped home and went to sleep.. morning went out for a drive and man my head unit and steering wheel were shaking to shit. so put it up on the hoist and found the big round rubber thing that is in between the tailshaft and the gearbox was torn to bits.. so after sum calling round i got another second hand one for $45 and replaced and she was a smooth ride again... but no hrs later it has started again.. and im too pissed off to even drive my car now or hop in it. can sumone please help me cus i think im just gonna get a new one when 2moro comes and is there suppose to be a proper wa of installing this like damperner rubber thing? if so wat is the proper way? there wuldnt be nothing else causing this to shred. like the uni joint is fine. do you think im better of sourcing a tailshaft and another damperner?
thanks
did you bolt the center bearing back to the floor properly? there are 2 small spacers that go between the floor pan and the center mount.
u mean the two outside bolts that blot straiht up to the body then there is two more bolts that go thru like a "U" shape platethat helps centre the bearing more? if so yea i did them up
umm is it like a washer? um i dont think i can recall putting them in?
say if there not there then would that cuase the damperner to be worn out?
hard to say with out seeing it mate, just an idea for you to check. Seems a little strange that you chewed 2 out with in hours of each other, theres defo something not right.
take some pics and put them up so we can see
ok well ill take a photo of the old one and upload it and when im at work 2moro ill put it up on the hoist and take sum fotos and upload the rest 2moro nite.. also it wuldnt be like a bent tailshaft wuld it. also wat other commodores have that rubber bit? is it jsut manuals with the getrag gearbox?
where do you work? somewhere with a hoist, so isnt there any mechanics there that could have a look for you??
A bent tail shaft would vibrate like crazy, but you would of had to hit something or ran over something large to bend it.
yea im a apprentice mechanic at a ford dealership but i would have liked to have it fixed over the weekend but yea im goin to spin it up on the hoist at work 2moro and have the boss to have a suss and see if there is sumtin not right.. i just wasnt sure if there is a proper way the damperner is supposed to be placed on the gearbox.. ill post up sum fotos of it now
sorry to hear your working for FORD!
at least you had the sense to buy a Holden tho lol
and funny thing is most of the mechanics own commodores
now is outside bit suppose to be all round? not like cut outs as it shows in the fotos?
do u guys think i shuld just bolt the tailshaft directly to the gearbox without the rubber damper there?
No idea about your problem, though i would like to see another silver project pop up in the show of your ride section!
