Default Air vent issues - VR Statesman.

Ok I have searched the forums high and low and found lots of great answers but not exactly pertaining to my current issue.
Like a lot of posts I read I am not getting air flowing onto my face when using the a/c thru either the climate control on auto or a/c manual setting, but it works fine when I have the Mode setting directed at my feet and windscreen, but nothing when Mode setting is to my face. I hear it working and blowing but barely a trickle of air comes out the face vents, and when I change it onto feet setting it roars out fine and dandy and icy cold. Read many possible electrical and mechanical fixes for this however couldn't find an answer as to why the air still doesn't flow onto my face with the a/c off, climate control off and only the vents open.
Nothing electrical or mechanical should be working or not working properly with just the air vents open, no fan on or anything, just the vents open and still the air only goes to my feet or windscreen? Could it be a problem with the ducting pipes maybe come loose and misaligned perhaps?
Not being overly mechanically gifted it frankly does my head in, the air vents should be directing air whereever I wish as it's not using anything electrical or mechanical which could be failing and causing this surely?
Anyway any help is greatfully received, cheers.

Hopefully some of the boffins here will respond sometime but in the interim I have been nattering with a few friends about this issue. Seeing as the air flow problem happens even when just using the air vents and no fan or a/c or climate control or anything is turned on, then possibly it could be a problem with the ducting hose to the face vents might have come adrift or has failed possibly?
Grasping at straws until someone with some knowledge helps with a post of course.

Still blindly groping in the dark with no clues but self help seems to be the order of the day so I'll keep boxing on. I am thinking that the way no air comes thru the face air vents at all could be a directional door issue. Maybe the door that directs the air thru the face air vents could be jammed shut or has failed, apparantly only requires the dash pulled out completely to check, big yay, ughhhhhhh!
Not giving up on the problem being a leak in the vacuum somewhere, just the fact that air doesn't come thru the face vents even when only the vents are being used with no a/c turned on or even fan on gives me pause. I am stumped.

check all the vaccum lines and tank under the bonnet if they are good There is a electronic solenoid block located under the radio black box with 4 holes in it that controls the vent directions they normally stop working and dont change some times this happened to mine replaced it and works good now

As a "boffin" I would suggest if you have read a LOT of posts then you have read about the black box that has 5 orange holes in it that sits under the radio.
If you havn't heard of this then you probably havn't searched your problem.
Holden will sell you 1 of these for about $120.00 bucks and I would reckon problem solved.

Thanx chuckie89 and NeilB for your suggestions and all I can do is trust the opinions of those with more knoweldge than I so will have that black box checked and replaced if it is indeed the culprit. I had read about the black box under the radio in other posts during my search on this subject but thick as I am it just didn't seem to register as being what was wrong in my case.
Hopefully I can report next that the problem is solved...

You need to run the climate control diagnostics to identify the problem (which I suspect like NielB is most likely a failed vacuum solenoid). Easy to do and it goes through all the vent combinations.

    Hope that helps

Check the vacc line with the T piece hasn't fallen off from the back of the motor just left of the throttle body on the side of the inlet elbow.

thanks for that, just had my car apart replaced the solenoid box (mine had the uneven wear signs on the foam) and noticed there was no vacuum getting through the firewall even. so checked the tpiece as you said and seems it was blocked. Going to replace that and the one way valve near the tb and see how we go after that.
