    Default Fuel pump

    Need to change my fuel pump on my vs berlina what is the best way to change it do i need to drop the tank what is the best way to change it need some advice very mechanicaly minded thanks

    i usually just jack up the body and let the diff hang that way you can get the pump out over the top of the diff.

    Also, make sure the tank is almost empty and don't loose the return hose inside the tank. Its a bit fiddley to get off.

    how hard is it to get out after u take the bolts that hold it to the tank out is there is any special way of getting it out?

    you sorta have to roll it out, and the return hose is attached, do not force it or you will brake stuff.......

    you need to turn it as you withdraw it and you have to extract the pump and sieve seperately to the float or else you can damage the float. You ned to disconnect the return line that runs from the bck of the flange inside the tank and make sure it doesn't fall inside or come off at the other end.
    I syphoned the tank and jacked my car up by the body on stands and let the diff drop. Use stands front and back so its level that way you won't spill too much petrol as having the front lower brings the fuel to the front of the tank where the pump goes in.
    Use a new gasket and I put some stag on it and don't do it up too tight. I used a really small torque wrench when I did mine.
