    Default fuel pump gasket

hey guys, was looking underneath the car the other day (was on a hoist) and noticed the bottom of the fuel tank is all covered what I think is petrol.

its more like its damp, I asked a mechanic and he said the fuel pump gaskets leaking. anyone know if these are easy to change? or if you change that should you be doing the fuel pump as well?

The 'gasket' just sits between the tank and the outer ring (thing with all the screws in it). To change it you will have to pull the fuel pump assembly out of the tank. Not a difficult job, no.

lol, with all the problems you've been having with your car I would do the fuel pump at the same time to save you having to do it in the near future (which you probably would!!)

You can get a walbro almost-direct-replacement for around 250bucks that'll come in handy if you ever want to boost it..... (it'll handle around 500hp)

In my opinion I would purchase a tune/memcal from Greenfoam - his ebay handle is 'nicefrog'.
I don't have one of his tunes, but he appears to be a well respected honest forum member.

You can never be too careful when dealing with ebay tunes.

Plus you can talk to green foam on here if you have any issues with the product, not many other ebay sellers give that sort of customer feedback.

yeah, just a bare shell at the moment, waiting on the rollcage.
Block is all stripped trying to get some heads from the US, might have to do some modifications to get em to fit. Time will tell i guess.

Your car should be bulletproof after you have replaced everything!!

Dunno 'bout the OP. But im unlicensed so when I get it back it'll probably be ANOTHER 3years!

So far I've been on P's for just under 6years. I admit I have made some stupid decisions, but how they can take your license off you 4years AFTER you've committed the so-called offence is beyond me, add to that they did it while i was in hospital argueing with the surgeon as to why i wanted to keep my right leg!

I hate Bendigo, maybe I should move.......

    ***hands thread back.

As someone else said you need to take out the fuel pump and sender unit assembly, just jack the car up and put the body on stands and let the diff (if its a solid rear axle) drop down and there's enough room. You have to syphon the tank first and have the car level so petrol does not come out when you unbolt the pump assembly from the tank.
A new gasket is only a few dollars and use some stag paste and don't over tighten it, if yours has hex head nuts as opposed to screws use a small torque wernch.
I've used old gaskets in an emergency with stag and they don't leak. I would't be leaving a fuel leak no matter how small unattended to as it's a fire risk and the fumes can build up if your garage it.
As far as the pump goes if you have it out I'd replace it as they can go with little warning and you will need a tow. I'd use a genuine one (I got one from a dealer with a gasket for about $100.00) unless you need some type of after market one with a higher flow.
I'd also replace the filter and the external hoses from the tank to filter, other side of the filter and the return to tank.

Fuel pump and/or gasket is easy. Have faith brother!
Just have the tank as empty as possible before you start, nothing like fuel in the armpits!

ahaha, reckon I can hack it? Ok ill get parts prices then So you just jack it up, undo the bolts around the pump, and pull it out? (ive heard you have to drop the tank to change the fuel pump)

replace gasket and use some sort of sealant, do up bolts, etc. replace hoses.
    fuel filter has been replaced

edit: neetwagon, you live in bendigo eh? thats not all that far away from geelong.

nah not that far. 2hours see's it done.
    Got family down there actually.

Yeah you'll be right. You don't have to drop the tank. Just unbolt the screws/bolts, remove the assembly
tkae the sock off the end of the old pump, remove the pump, stick the new one in, put the sock on and reverse the process.
