    Default VS Standard Struts

Just got my ute lowered today and when i looked on my old struts it says Monroe on them. Did the VS's come standard with Monroe struts and shocks from the factory?

Yep, most Holden's have come with their crap for the last two decades....

Even my AWD Cross 6, an application where you'd at least expect some sort of decent shock under them, came with Monroe from factory...

25,000km and they were completely gone.... Nice set of Bilstein's up front, and KYB in the rear and only then did the ute feel like it wanted to venture off billiard table roads, or tow a car...

Theres nothing wrong with Monroe, why do you think there are still so many commodores on the road at 300,000km + ?

Thats why i bought some Monroe GT Sport Shortened Struts/Shocks for my ute and cannot wait to install them.

Getting them for the right price sealed the deal

Monroe (which is owned by a large multi-national called Tenecco) couldn't care less about producing decent aftermarket products, because as jokerflingo has quite rightly pointed out they're more concerned with making contracted (read: guaranteed) dollars by being an OEM supplier...

What decent shocks they do have (mainly GT Sport) are actually not bad products, but are grossly overpriced in the market, and a world away from the crap they fit as OEM... which are flat out lasting 30,000km.... let alone 300,000km...

I have found monroe to not last as long, from what i've seen in commodores with similar k's. I found them to be overpriced too, i've ridden in cars with good munroe sports shocks and they ride just as well as my kyb excel-g which were way cheaper.
    Just my 2 cents!

Your 2 cents has hit the nail on the head! Their best shock (GT Sport) is the equivalent to a Japanese made KYB, but generally alot more expensive.

Their quality isn't as good as the KYB (made in Japan... so no more) so they don't last as long. I'm not anti-Monroe for any particular reason, I just wouldn't ever fit them to any car I own knowing that there's better or equivalent products out there for less dollars.

So could of you provided me with KYB? Shortened Shocks and Struts for a Holden VS Ute for $375 to my Adelaide door?

Because when you quoted me it was quite a bit more then that i believe?

Hence why i have GT Sports on my room floor.

Nup. And I bet neither could any non-Ebay seller either... But that doesn't change the product one iota. You got it at a great price, which is fine, and as I've said the GT Sport aren't a bad product. If you can get it cheaper than the KYB then it's not a bad option, but in 99 out of 100 cases the Monroe doesn't even come close in price so why would you ordinarily buy the lesser of the two products when it's more expensive...

But going back to the original question, the Monroe as supplied OEM are a world away from the GT Sport or KYB you buy aftermarket....

For the record we do also sell Monroe, but only trade (thus why it's not on our website), and did quite a bit of it when the VE first came out, as they were the only ones who had lowered shocks available. Since Boge brought out their shortened shock to suit the VE we've now been supplying that as a substantial discount to to the cost of the Monroe, for similar ride and performance, plus the Boge come with a lifetime warranty.

As I said, I'm not anti-Tenecco, I just personally wouldn't fit any of their shocks to my car, even if I could pick them up stupidly cheap on ebay.

Npz, were probably both sorta shit stirring, as you have said, if i had to get the Monroe GT Sports at the normal price they wouldn't have been worth it and i would of gone with the KYB's or similar.

    Good discussion

when i was a mechanic i never quoted monroe cause from previous experience their failure rate was higher and comes backs more frequent...kyb or boge..mostly kyb...ive had kyb on my vr for 9-10yrs now and 80***klms had a look at them recently when i fitted up my new brakes...no signs of leakage and still stiff as...compress a monroe and compress a kyb and see which one you think is faster acting...monroe may be ok for granpas passenger car but for a commodore driver with a penchant for sports driving without the huge pricetag of others then kyb is the go...damn wish i had shares in the company too lol...
