1996 Vs Series II V6 - Which Oil To Use

As title says
just wondering what oil should i use (holden states to use 20-50w in the book but theres alot of ppl saying times have changed and to use 15-30w nowadays so just looking for some opinions)
engine has done bout 250,000kms
wanted to know how thick of an oil i should use
and any certain type as in the so called "oils for cars with high kms"
this is first oil change im doin on the car (got it a few moths ago)
also doing plugs and leads and just wondering any other things i should check out on it while im at it

any help would be great

If it burns oil use penrite HPR15 or 30. If it doesn't drink oil pretty much use what you want. Valvoline Durablend or a high mileage oil would be fine.

penrite HPR 30 is good for commodores, i wouldnt run anything thinner that that.

I don't like wasting money and always use cheaper oils - always 20W50 - mine is at 220,000km and still uses no oil. I'll admit to using Black and Gold, Gulf Western and Woolworths brands...whatever is on special. Change it every 6 months and do the filter at the same time. Some people go for brands, I go for price!

well ive got a 5 litre bottle of castrol gtx 20-50 in the garage may as well just use that and might try the penrite hpr 30 next change
