    Default vs heater/fan problem

    hi all.

i have been trying to find info on the vs interior fan. mine only pumps hot air and wont change when dial is turned to cold. also air wont work on demister setting, only blows at feet. what are some things to look at on solving this, i am mechanicaly minded, just never had to touch this sort of thing before...

sorry if there has been a post on this

in the drivers footwell near the center console there is a selector rod that turns the heater from cold to hot, look at that to see if it has come unclipped, if it is still clipped in make sure when you turn the temp dial that it is moving all the way forward and back, if that is working next step is to check the heater tap under the bonnet, this has a vacuum line going to it that opens and closed the tap check to see if this is cracked/missing etc.
If your heater is only blowing on feet then you have a vacuum leak somewhere, the main vacuum ball/canister is under the passenger side front guard its a black ball looking thing, make sure the vacuum lines are connected to this, if one is missing you will loose the function of selecting where the demister blows.

    Hope this helps.

In addition to Westbad's great advice, you can check the vacuum at the point where it leaves the inlet manifold and branches off to the vacuum reservoir (black ball) and to the cabin. I've attached a pix which shows location behind inlet manifold. At the Tee- piece you can check if the one way valve is working, is the reservoir split/leaking and whether the cabin vacuum also has a leak. Do this with some tubing and just apply suction. Good Luck.
