okay i just bought this vs ss and the guy told me there was a loud clunking noise coming from the rear end when accelerating the noise has got alot louder and i need to know if its defaintly the cv joints/drive shaft ive checked the universal joints and they seem to be fine but there seems to be a fair bit of play in the cv joint and ive been told this is what it could be so i realy need help asap the car is a 97 5speed vs ss irs diff thanks guys![]()
so it's an IRS diff then, I had similar on my VR sounded like it was clunking and harder I went the louder it got, ended up bearings in my rear left hub, does it make a noise when decelerating as well like a humming noise?
yeah its irs mate and the noise is loud as **** wen u accelerate it still does it wen u roll along i cant drive it at all now i was driving on the high way went back to 4th and the just went bang! now the clunking noise is hell bad cant drive it i had to tow it home
Could be a diff noise (from the inside of the diff) or it could be the pinon bearing
all your going to get on here is it could be this it could be that... you need to pull it part and look for your self, no one on here is going to be able to tell you exactly what is wrong with your car with out even seeing it.
get under the car and see if anything looks of feels out of place, could well be a shot CV joint.
Hi Redrocket,
Had the same problem in my VS ute, Found that it was the cv joint. Took it too a diff specialist and cost around $600 if memory serves correct about 18 months ago drive in drive out. If you have the spare cash this is probably the best option.
didnt think any of the VS utes had IRS... thought that was VU onwards?? live axle dont have cv joints.
