ok theres a clunk noise in my diff sounds realy bad coming from the rear of the car its like driving a tractor i was on the highway today and i changed back to 4th and gave it a little and it just went pretty much bang like a realy loud clunk so i pulled ova and go it towed home becuase theres no way i can drive it at the moment ive been told it could be the drivers side cv drive shaft i pulled it off today and had a look theres heaps of play in it and u can move it back and foward easy as and it has a hole in it just near the rubber boot :\ i was just wondering if maybe its the bearings in the cv drive shaft stuffed? i havent pulled it back off yet since ive been towed home but i want to make sure that is what it is and if it is , is there any way i could have done any other damage the car is a 5speed VS SS with irs lsd thanks need awsners asap
my diff was whining and all that so i replaced it with one out of a smashed car.. it was all good till i got down the drive and there was bad clunking.. all it was, was one of the cv's had shattered in that shaft that goes from the diff to the wheels.. theres two cv's one on each end and they are covered in a boot in side your cv is probably broken.. u just have to replace that whole shaft... easy to do.. first find which one looks bent and is making the sound.
as youve continued to drive your car in this state u may have busted the whole diff
hope this helps
yeah it was making a realy loud clunking noise the hole way home and then it just went bang now i cant even move it the clunkin noise is that bad the cv is bent but it has a hole in it and im sure the noise is coming from there ??
cv isnt bent sorry*
yeah just replace those cv's the whole shaft comes with cv's attached just get the part from the wreckers..
yeah i will probaly just get them bran new its gonna be to hard to find them at the wreckers.
open it up an have a look
gotta love a live axle lol should of started as a clickety noise went to a clunkety noise followed by an epic fail. don't matter if you put cv's on the front or back of a car they are still the weakest link. U can get reco one or new ones don't get wrecker ones most cars are at the wrecker cuase someone stuffed up thrashing them.
