heavy gas/ fuel smell

ive been told my car got a strong smell of fuel / gas when the car is sitting there any idea what it might be ive lookd under the car might be a hole in the back end of the exhuast so going to weld that up at work any other ideas might be worth looking at

When you say: "a strong smell of fuel / gas" do you mean fuel being petrol and gas being LPG?

If you mean petrol is it worse when the tank is filled? It's probably your fuel tank breather hoses after a while they rot and can split open or even come off. You'll need to drop your fuel tank and have a look as they are connected tot he top of the tank. You can also remove the panel behind the drivers side rear wheel and inspect them there for general condition, if you pul them and they fall apart it's a good indication you need to drop the tank and replace them. Also check the connection to your charcoal canister it is just behind the same wheel near the front of the tank.

yea i mean if im runing petrol or when i switch it to gas but it only seems to be when the car is idiling
