Default "check engine" light problem...VR Wagon Eclipse

    Hey guys,

For a little while now, my VR Wagon (Eclipse) has been having this problem with the 'Check Engine' light. When the car was started, about 95% of the time, the check engine light will come on. This would affect the power of the car, it would go, but acceleration is awful. After a few minuets of either just leaving the engine running or driving around the block, the light would disappear and the car would run like it should. We've taken it down to the mechanics, and the guy there said it had something to do with either the "computer not registering" something, or the oil not warming up properly (not sure whether to believe him or not).

But recently, the light would not turn off. I plan on taking to the mechanics when I have some spare time, but just wanted to see what you guys thought first to see if its something I can fix.

    Any help is appreciated!

    Cheers,
    Sam

This means an error code has been logged. You can check the codes yourself, it's easy:

    Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)

Just remember code 12 will flash 3 times before any other codes are displayed.

    Thanks for that.

I checked it out, and the code it linked up with is 'Vacuum Leak'.

Just wondering what needs to be done/how to fix a Vacuum Leak?

    Again, any help is appreciated

    Cheers

its a matter of finding it mate, but youd think a vacuum leak would make the car run like crap all the time wouldnt it?

Vacuum leak is usually a busted or cracked hose. Have a look under the bonnet for a cracked or broken hose and replace it. Shouldn't be too hard to find........

Depending on how long since you've hadd the car, suss out all the hoses under your bonnet and replace them. Usually if one is gone, it won't take long for the others to follow suit
