hi all, i replaced the CAS in my vs just over a week ago. bought one from bursons, it fixed all the problems i was having, now it is showing the same symptoms as it did before i replaced it. i have replaced these before and never had a problem so i am sure it is not something i have done. how could one of these need replacing after a week of use? Dont want to change it again to just have another new one stuff up.
Ive seen a non genuine CAS fail from new. What a prick of a thing to diagnose because the engine still wouldnt start even with the new CAS so we thought it must be something else wrong untill hours later we tried another different CAS and the engine started and ran perfectly. With sensors you are heaps better off buying genuine holden replacements.
when installing you have to be precise with the "air gap" and not damage the fins, but seen as you have dont it before you should know. also if the part is aftermarket i have heard of these being of poor quality. try a genuine one see if that works
i will go out to holden and get one from them in couple days. anyone know how much genuine ones are. never known bout air gap and never had this problem changing them on my v6 eh i had. it is such a simple strait forward job.
fins on balancer all looked in good condition, i will check them again when i am putting the next one on.
thanks for the replies.
Theres no ajustable air gap on the VR/VS.It is a factory set gap width, the sensor just bolts straight on. The VN and maybe even the VP had to be adjusted though.(Update)I just looked at a workshop manual. It says that all but the VS need to be adjusted,so there ya go.Theres a special tool available to adjust it right according to the manual.I think as long as its adjusted so the sensor is not hitting the interrupter blades on the balancer it should be ok.
