hello i am after a bit of help i have a vs v6 it is going threw a bit of coolant and it has milky junk a round the valve springs and under the oil capand when i go up the ramps in the local parking lot the temp gage goes up into the red i took it to the mecanic and was told the head gasket is on its way out at chamber 7 before i pay big $$$ i would like to know the difference between the inlet manifold gasket and head gasket blown symtoms
If thers a milky substance around your valves im beting head gasket, that milky stuff is coolant and oil mixed togeather, if you want to be sure, take off your inlet manifold and inspect the gaskets. A head gasket isnt a hard job to do your self and it works out cheaper to just buy parts.
It dependes where the gasket actually blows out.Sometimes there is no water mixed with the oil sometimes there is,(the engine oil goes like mikly slime),sometimes it will just blow the coolant out the overflow,or sometimes it just pumps coolant through the engine and out the exhaust. You would have to do a compression test on the engine to find the cylinder/s effected. And also have the cooling system pressure tested to see if its leaking around the inlet manifold gaskets. If the head gasket is blown, the inlet manifold has to come off anyway.
