Default Possible to change auto trans in a VR V6 without taking out motor?

as the title states, motor and trans have been out a couple times, i can do it well and have it out and in within a day anyway, but the motor is fine now, its just the trans, so is it possible to just take the trans out? ive got access to a hoist, i think its just the torque converter nuts that go on the motor is going to be a pain in the ass, but can anyone shed some light on this? cheers

and im also on the hunt for a 4HDD trans, any ideas?

    cheers

yes auto can come out bye its self, the trans lines and converter are the biggest pain in the ass but other than that a hoits and trans jack will do the trick

the torque converter bolts are easy to undo mate, when you have the car in the air and the cover off undo the 1st bolt then spin the converter round until the next is at the bottom then again to get the 3rd one.

Your biggest challenge is getting at the top 2 bell housing bolts, i use a meter long extension bar with knuckle on the end of it to get at them, drop down the trans mount 1st this will give you a little more room, as for the trans lines i usually find it easier to cut them with a pipe cutter and rejoin after using the same type of hose you get for trans coolers.

On a hoist it will be a pretty simple job, half a day should see it in and out, the last box i changed i did on the floor with axle stands and a trolly jack that took about 4 hours one night to remove the old box and about the same again the next day to put the new one in.

    Hope this helps.

cover is easy to get off only a few 10mm bolts, not sure about the V6 but on the V8 if you take the exhaust Y piece off and it will be easy to get at, it has to come off to get the auto out anyway

Take out the 2 top bolts from above in the engine bay before you put the car up in the air (ramps or hoist).
The hardest thing is the trans cooler lines if they have been done up too tight where they connect into the box.

i found that u can usually reach the very top 2 bolts from under the bonnet very easily. worked on my old VC 308 and there is alot less room under there than in a V6 VR, saved tonnes of dicking about with extension bars
