Hi all.
i was on here earlier kinda having a rage about my vr giving me hell.
i have had a machanic do the auto in it and the service cause it was cloes enough to due.
after this guy has serviced it the service light is stuck on and my auto is now acting up worse then before.
as im driving it feels like the auto is fighting itself then all of a sudden its good then it acts up again but only does this sometimes i drive it.
The machanic said he replaced the filter and oil in the transmission after but in looking at it im fully questioning if he even undid the bolts on the bottom of the tranmisssion there is no markings and it never was cleaned or even wiped with a rag and it doubt he even rebuilt it now
could a dirty oil filter make a Vr series 2 auto stuff up?
I would truely be greatful to anyone who can lend me some advice.
Also wondering what year model commodore autos will fit into a vr series 2 lol
regards in advance
Kyle
hmm no comments![]()
Check the colour of the oil - if not pink then maybe the mech didn't do the filter change. Also you should do a fault code test to find out what is wrong with the auto:Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)
I'd only fit another VR auto as they were the first of the electronically controlled models...the VS has a different plug so will not fit easily.
Anyway, do the code check and report back....it possibly is just a solenoid playing up if the problem is intermittent.
So the check engine light is on since it's been serviced?? Take it back and ask him to have a look at it... Especially if the trans is playing up after being serviced.... it could be a number of things... low fluid, dodgy filter/valvebody seal allowing air in, wrong fluid, wrong filter, etc...
was it a service (ie. fluid, filter and seal) or a complete rebuild?
Alex2_s i took the commodore back and he abused the crap out of me and said he did it and that nothing is rong. and Hako i checked the oil it definitly hasnt been changed
That sucks. Find a new mechanic is all i can say...
Did you specifically point out,
1) the trans problems in its driveability
2) the 'old' fluid still in there (i assume its still old and brown/burnt, not pink/red?)
3) the check engine light on???
Before the trans was serviced, what was it driving like, slipping etc or fine? And was it immediately after the supposed service it started playing up?? What exactly is the problem with it...
Did you do a fault code test as hako advised to see if you can narrow down the mishaps...
Go get another mechanics opinion, get em to check it out.Get it on paper from them that the trans wasnt serviced then contact someone like the MTA or dept fair trading.Dont take that from this idiot.Too much of it goes on.Especially when it involves chicks going to see them.Ive seen some beauties in my time.Thats why I do all my own services and repairs where possible. And if I do have to take my car somewhere and leave it there,I will wait with it and watch em do the work, some try to say no to that so I just go elsewhere.Tell em why you want to wait and watch them do it.(because you have been robbed before)Its your money.Dont take their shit.
ALex2_s its a browny burnt colour
When i drive its perfect one moment then it chucks a tantrum and drives like it is fighting its self.
then it will free rev then its perfect again. to me it feels like its not picking up gears proply.
also when it goes into reverse its smooth but when going into drive its kinda violent
Like I suggested before, do the codes check:Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)
Forget about the first mechanic (in my opinion)...you will never get satisfaction.
The codes check may tell what is wrong......then you can maybe fix it.![]()
hi ive checked the error codes and gotten 12 13 28 21 31 is it possible for anyone to tell me how to fix these
Code 12 just shows the start and end of the error codes. It will also show code 12 three times constantly if there are no logged errors.Code 13 is an oxygen sensor fault.Code 28 is an auto transmission fault.Code 21 is a throttle position sensor(TPS) fault.Code 31 is the theft deterrent signal missing ,which is usually caused by the battery in the keyhead going flat or the key not contacting the metal contacts around the ignition switch.Disconnect the car battery for a couple of minutes and this will clear the error codes.Re-test after going for a drive and see if any return. If any errors return, replace any faulty sensors, clear errors, then go for another drive, then re-test just to make sure the error has gone and the cause fixed.
ok cleared error codes and no codes are coming up yet the auto is still playing up
has anyone got a photo of the inside of a vr box or were the solidnoids are in the box so i can replace them
The TPS can make the gearbox play up and not shift properly.Id be replacing it before doing anything to the trans.Especially since the TPS had an error code. Also how far did you drive it before re-checking for error codes. It will most likely need at least 20 minutes or more of driving time to make sure the errors arent gonna come back.
Try this link...but I wouldn't go changing solenoids without verification that they are the fault. From your fault codes, code 21 as Brett explained is the throttle position sensor.....if this plays up the poor old transmission doesn't know whether the accelerator is up or down so I'd either check it or the wiring and/or replace that first.
Anyone got pics of shift solenoids for 4L60E ?
Does anyone live near hervey bay queensland and know how to check this cause this is starting to confuse the crap out of me.
im old school carbies and big blocks stuff this electrical crap
i took the car out for 2 hours driving around town and on 100k roads
