Default 5 litre not happy when warm :(

hi all im new to this site but hve been keeping an eye on you all for a while

basicly i have a vs series 2 with 5 litre i have extrctors, 3" exhaust and good leads (need that cai) the motor runs fairly well but once it has warmed up it devolops a slight miss (which can come and go) when trying to cruise say around the 1500rpm mark now if i put my foot into it this will normally clear out but comes back as soon as u get back to low revs .... once this has started if i pull up at lights i have a pretty lumpy idle but the revs will stay steady at around 800. im stumped as to what this could be any help would be greatly apreciated , i would like to avoid the many $$$ this is likely to cost me at a shop

    thanks hamish

G'Day Hamish and welcome to the forum. First thing I'd do is a codes check: Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)
Are the plugs fairly new and gapped correctly...also leads.
Your vehicle sounds like something I would lose my license in.

It could be your ignition module. Does your tacho bounce all over the shop when it's missing ????

Yup...would be great, for a short time, then no rear tyres (shredded) no license (suspended).............probably get my name in the papers...hey, I'd be famous!!!
Nothing like a V8 - on YouTube, search for "stickshift" by "the Duals" - it's a 45 from '61 with the sound of a Henry V8 and a stick change....magic.

cracked dizzy cap or loose lead? i had the same on mine a while ago and one of the leads at the dizzy end had come loose.. found this out when i went to fit the new dizzy cap and rotor button
Didnt bother fitting the new cap as the miss had been fixed.. ill change it one day when i get the time.
The dizzy caps are a pig to change on the 5ltrs due to there location, i always find the best way to do it is to unclip the cap take it off with leads still attached, swap the leads to the new dizzy cap one at a time then put the cap back on, its a tight fit but take your time and you will be alright.
If you haven't done already whilst your doing the dizzy cap it is worth while moving the coil, its bolted to the back of the block next to the dizzy, if it fails (like mine did) they are a pain to get at so relocate it to a suitable place on the firewall and extend the wires going to it so they reach will make your life a whole lot easier if and when it fails.

mate i fixed my 5l ute a shitload. water in the fuel tank does funny stuff sometimes. i replaced ignition module 200 reco, leads, plugs, coil and a couple of sensors and it went from shit to holy shit! but a low speed miss sounds like a poor contact somewhere. ya just gotta get out the multimeteer and check from bottom to top. also you should pull off your intake manifold and file out the ports a bit cos on mine there was so much extra metal that i got about 10 percent more area on each one. and it went stacks better after that. 2nd gear off the line and smoking both bags to 110 k. and 3rd to 140. lol. good luck mate mine pissed me off no end.
