Default Temp gauge reading to high.

As the title says,Open road driving it sits just under half.Around town sits just over half,Is this about right.seems pretty high to me.My old VN only moved off the first make.Water levels are ok.

The VN's were very low reading gauge from all the VN's I've had.

But over half way is a little high...

Sounds normal for a VS, actually better than mine and my cooling system is spot on.

I know that when the vs first came out, customers were complaining about this, the fix was to replace the sensor with an aftermarket type sensor, all it did was make the reading on the gauge a little lower, i wouldnt be to worryed about this but in saying that keep a close eye on your coolant levels and check offen

Just under 1/2 while driving is a little higher than my VS which sits on just over 1/4 at speed. The gauge will climb up to 3/4 though when the fan kicks in at traffic lights (if there long enough).

I wouldn't worry though as long as the fan kicks in around the 3/4 mark and can bring the temp down while idling in traffic on hot days.

As others have suggested, if the thermostat and radiator fins and coolant are in good condition with no air in the system then I really wouldn't get too worried.

My last job was near the city centre so I added a thermo fan switch due to all the stop/start driving to give the tranny and engine an easier time of it but that's just my mechanical sympathy in action!
