Hey guys
I need a towbar so that I can use the folks' trailer. Wondering what the easiest way of getting one is.
It's a VS with a fixed axle, not IRS.
- The car is lowered down to legal limit. This will mean that the towball will be a little lower than otherwise. Will this be a problem? It also has no wiring.
What's the easiest way to put a towbar on do the wiring? Should I go to the wreckers and just get the parts or do it myself? Or is the job a pain in the ass and its easier to just get the mechy to do it?
What's a reasonable price to pay for a towbar kit? There are some on ebay for $110.
Cheers
The wiring harness and plug for a tralier taps into the rear tail light wiring in the boot.It uses plugs the same as the cars and takes 5 seconds to connect up.My VS has a metal piece through the boot which is something to do with towing and body strength.Wreckers or Ebay, its up to you.Dont pay too much though, phone around.
With the solid rear end, any towbar from VN to VS will fit but don't get the heavy duty one like I did - with my FE2 suspension it scrapes on the ground regularly....the one that's rated up to 1200KG sits higher and weighs less. For the plug you can either fit an external plug and wiring or get the flat lead and hang it out thru the bootlid when towing - this is really the best option as the plug is stored in the boot when not used. To wire it in you can use either the piggyback connectors or cut the leads and solder the joints.
If your in syd ive got one on the VN i want to get rid of, including wiring but its missing the tounge.
