Mate's VR Senator 215i T56 has a lovely new clutch problem. The longer the car is left without the clutch being used, the further down the pedal the friction point goes. Left overnight, it will be off the bottom of the pedal (depressing pedal does NOTHING).. and it needs pumped about 50 times to come back up onto the pedal.
Once it's driving, everything works OK.
Any ideas?
These cars have a very non standard clutch setup, a hybrid cable/hydraulic setup which is apparently somehow self adapting/adjusting... I don't fully understand this. Please - if you know nothing about these particular clutches, don't pop up in here with stupid questions like everyone I ask seems to spit at me. For example: "hybrid? how does that work", "no, it just has a hydraulic clutch, all T56s do..", "nah VRs have cable clutches, you're wrong.." will NOT be appreciated.
Any helpful comments WILL however be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Sam

are they the same a the ls1 t-56 if so maybe the bleeder on the slave cylinder inside the bell housing may have a slow leak , there in a horrible place to bleed up , i would try re bleeding it and getting it tighter , other then then that it might be faulty and leaking from either the slave or a line

when you do a new clutch they recommend doing a new slave cylinder with anything over 80-100,000k's

mate they are a hydro assisted cable clutch, you can still adjust the cable. They are nothing like the ls1 6 speed, and they are a reverse to the equivelent t5. Take it to a pro to look at. Valeo are the only ones that make the hubs for them. Replacement clutches cost big $$$$

I understand this, sir355, the self adapting part I don't get is something I saw mentioned in a HSV book a while ago. Either way it doesn't matter, a pro said do the master cyl the first time around, he wanted $1600 in labour so we changed it ourselves.. the car was fine for a couple of months and only the last couple of days has this different problem popped up.
Stan has since taken the car to a couple of places, both giving him shit information, one (an Ultratune mechanic) even admitting he had no idea what he was looking at and that he had never seen a setup like this before and didn't want to touch it, lol
Any recommendations for someone who won't mind doing a diagnosis knowing full well he won't be doing the repair work?

Turned out the slave cylinder was to blame. Insides looked OK but when it was rebuilt the problem was fixed
Car goes awesome again, complete with a fresh Foam-Racing-spec tune
