    Default Cheap power gains?

    Hey,

Being a 17 year old does have it's drawbacks..money being the main lol.

I was just wondering what some of the cheapest ways to add more power to my VS would be (aside from good care and servicing)?

If you know any, then a price and how much power gain it can do in your response would be great!

    Cheers

    Matt

The other drawback to being 17 is all those restrictions, like NO MODS.

hey mate dont wory too much about da no mods thing, all da cops look for under da hood is turbos supershargers and pod filters. so id sujest an oversize throttlebody 200ish, bucks and a cold air intake (just get the one of da v8 vs it does the job) 70ish bucks, you can get cheeeep chips of ebay youd be lookin at about 160 bucks (theres guys on this forum that do chips but i have no idea about $$$) that should be a start but youll get the bug and wont wana stop. good luck (ps i also read on here about a shift kit for autos 70 bucks might be worth it)

Wow everyone seems to be ripping a bit haha.

Do a search mate it's been covered a bagillion and one times before.

Basically, for little money your looking at a CAI, either from holden for around $65 or a DIY job
Add a decent high flowing panel filter,
Cat back exhaust/extractors will give you a little bit

Basically though, these mods don't give much power at all. Exhaust adds sound, both mods add better throttle response and fuel economy so still are worth doing, but don't expect much in the power department.

Yeah I asked the Q and then went and looked at a thread about the VN cheap mods and thought 's*** i new i should have checked first'. But yeah i got the exhaust in which gave it a bit more take off. But that's all i'm looking for is just a bit more off the line, can't afford to speed being a p-plater as they only give 4points lol. CAI for only $65? all those kits and crap all seem to cost like 200-300 bucks? And you say I could just phone up holden and ask for a CAI and install on my VS? I guess I could just get a Panel filter from SUpercheap or autobarn or something too then.

    thanks

    Do much highway driving?

If all your looking for is to get a bit more pick up and go, and are willing to sacrifice some top end, change the diff gears. Not exactly cheap, maybe $600 or so, but it'd be the most effective.

Alrighty since I am looking for the most dirt cheap options, I think I'm going to get a CAI from Holden (that right?) and just a K&N Panel Filter.

In getting the CAI from Holden, do I just phone up a Holden Dealership and say that I want a CAI on my Commy VS (will they install too)?
Also I looked at SuperCheapAuto and they have K&N Filters for $109? that price sound right?

Get exhaust, CAI and a delcowizard tune.

I noticed a huge difference in performance from his tune on my stock VS, plus an improvement in fuel econimy.

Alternatively, do what I did with my VR.
Spend endless late nights searching auction sites for used performance parts and beg, steal or borrow the cash to buy them, then do all the work involved with fitting them yourself in your driveway late at night with mismatched, secondhand tool sets. In the rain.

    Don't know what to think;

    1. Good on you for using the search
    2. Was it really necessary to dig an old thread JUST to say that?

Though, I'm leaning towards a 3rd option; All of the above!
