i recently put a series 1 engine into a vr with the original vr gearbox and using the vr wiring when we go to turn the key we just get a click and the (i) light on the dash? could there be a wire off stopping it fro starting or some major error?
the engine was running when pulled from the vn
I'm only guessing, but isn't the series 1 VN motor electrically ignition-wise different to the VR motor? - I know when I see CAS or harmonic balancers for sale (forVN- VRs)they say "not for series1" which kind of indicates that they are different....
I just put a VN S1 engine into my Hilux to replace a VR engine. I replaced the engine loom as well.
You have not indicated if your VR is Auto and if you used the same ECU. The Auto PARK interlock may come into play.
I will also mention, the starter motor wiring is simple, so try Ignition On and do a Hot wire of the starter motor and see if it starts.
Don't be shy. More info needed!
yes the vr is auto and usin the vr ecu
are all your earth points connected back up on the motor
did you change the timing case on the vn engine?
vr onward have a cam angle sensor (auto only) vn-vp didn't

nah dint change the timing case but i did notice the extra sensor, and yes all earth wires are back on
Yep thats the go what "the forgotten" said you have to change the timing covers over I did the same thing (put VN motor into VR) but i changed the timing cover first started first crank!
Theres a magnet that goes into the hole of the camshaft drive sprocket that trips the cam angle sensor as it spins around. This has to be installed as well as just the cover plus sensor.
ok np ill do that today and let use kno
Did you know s1 vn also had differnt dfi packs too and iam assuming wiring will be different
Im sure Ive read on here somewhere before that you can swap the first VN single (1 coil) pack for the latter (3 single coils) type ones.Im not 100% on this but someone will know and should be able to tell us.I also remember reading that first type of one(1 single coil type) are expensive to replace too,the latter ones are more common as well so it would be worth looking into it.
