Hey guys, I'm new to this but i'l give it a shot.
Im 17 and soon wanting to buy a vs ute. ive seen alot with like 180,000ks.
I know it seems like a fair amount, but ive also some with 250000-300,000+ around, which i think means they can last.
so my question is, for this type of car is buying one with around 170,000 k's gonna be ok still?
im in melbourne, VIC and will hopefully spend around $8k.
Cheers guys.
hey mate, 170000 k's is a low number for most vs utes, i bought mine with 203000 and it still goes really nice, however i have had to replace engine mounts, sway bar bushes and panhard rod bushes. thats all that the car required to handle nicely, have since spent a few dollars buyin performance upgrades for it and for about 1500 u can make the car hammeru cant go wrong with vs utes mate, lower k's means jack shit however, its how its been looked after for them k's that counts.
8k is really pricy, but then again utes keep their value better than sedans.. if looked after they'll go for 400,000kms and then some!
personally, i'd get a 4-5k sedan, and put the rest of the $into exhaust, tranny, engine, intake etc.
lol, with 3-4k to play with ud get around 140-150rwkw... or more if you're lucky
i bought my VS with 211 on clock, now on 287 and running like a dream... better actually because of intake, exhaust and other goodies
Cheers guys,
yeah well theres a heap of sedans around cheap as chips but i really just want a ute :P
But yeah loads of the utes ive seen, especially the manuals are up around that mark. im happy to pay around that coz im probably not going to do many upgrades as p platers arent allowed much down here.
but is there anything i should be looking out for when buying one?
im hoping a manual.
cheers
I know this might sound silly but Just be careful some can be thrashed
180,000 thats pretty low km
V6 For 8k sould to be in a1 tip top condition
Just my thoughts
Yeah i definatly agree, vs commo series would be up there in the most thrashed cars haha.
but yeah i reakon i could find some around 180-190k which would be sweet.
Also i dont think i'l spend much if anything on mods, but what would everyone recommend for just basic, not expensive and p-plate legal mods i could add. I might do something about a basic stereo and new rims, even though i pretty much know next to nothing about all different types of speakers and shit id need!
yea i have heard of them lasting over 450 xxx kms just depends if you buy it of a young bloke it will probably be thrashed so yea
Legal mods.. I don't know if its legal but internal mods would be good if you got the $
I think if cops can't see it they don't know nothing
yeah well id rather spend cash to make it look good than illegal mods.
also on the topic of mods, do things like CAI, exhaust improve/decrease life of a car?or no differencee
cheap mods would be CAI and hi flow filter n probs a catback exhaust, extractors n hi ratio rockers r also very nice but a lil more pricey.
thanks, il have to look into that when i get one.
Also do any mods improve fuel economy or anything, since ive heard commodores take a fair amount of petrol.
they improve fuel economy if their extra performance isn't used! they are also really good for cruising on the highway... stock, i'd get around 9L/100kms on the hume highway, at 110-120 with aircon on.... at the same speed now i'd get 8L/100kms or even less, with greater throttle response. though the way the car runs, its really hard to tell the difference between 110 and 130-140 without looking at the tacho, and at the higher speed í'll get 9 or so to the 100..
performance wise, my VS took on a BA XR6 and won... i'm quite happy with her, and i've spent aroud 1100 in engine mods.... and I havent even put the rockers/cam in... cant wait till they're in but am a bit broke atm
Yeah mate 180-200,000 k's is pretty standard though ive bought one for $9500 with 118,000k's on the clock all original motor just depends on how theyve been looked after and if theyve been trashd, but there a solid ute they will last into the 300's and 400's if looked after
Cheers guys. cant wait to get one.
Shame there isn't a few more manuals around though, carsales isnt giving me too many options manual wise![]()
If your looking for a White VS Ute Manual , good condition nice clubsport rims with 245000kms for bout $4200 and your in perth lol i know someone
haha would be nice but a few thousand k's away from me :P
Ok well heres my main point.
as its my first car and im gonna wanna sell it again of course, if its in good nic and good service history etc, what would be the max kms you guys would purchase one at?
cheers for everything
i would pay probly no more than bout 6000 with one thats done over 250,000 buts thats my opnion its getting high by that stage. $8000 -$8500 should get a nice one in the range of 160-190 and ofcause higher price lower k's. then you gotta add into like v6 v8 manual etc or work of any kind, just search every website and hit the car yards up, took me bout 6 nights worthe of card yarding/private owners to finnaly find one over weeks but it was worthe it
Yeah well as im hoping manual that raises the costs a bit, but prices are all over the joint.
one with 187k and work done is 9k
theres one with 205ks thats 7,5k pretty stock
some are dear as shit in dealers and car city for xample are selling ones with 300+ ks for 10000!!??
I think il hope for under 200 so hopefully il find a good one!
also (sorry for all the questions but im a bit of a newbie) how much would just a standard nice looking set of rims go for, and is it best to buy in shops like repco or something?
Id go with the 187k for 9!, but defintly try and get $500 of it all helps, and havin work done is just less u have to do, Yeah mate im in the same boat i know **** all bout this as i just got mine the other week just got on this forum tonight, umm rims vary $1000 would get a nice set, or the ones i got are worthe bout 1500 i think they came with it and im keepin them
the only thing i worry about if its got work done like exhaust, paceys, lowerred is that its likely a young bloke whos thrashed it, but if not the point you made about not having anything needed is exactly what i think.
I guess il have to keep looking for a good enough deal to convince my parents to let me buy it
but i was really writing off getting a manual coz i thought the k's were too high, but after hearing thats its normal im stoked!
How many k's has yours done out of curiosity?
Well yeah thats the risk u gota take if the owners 18 dont buy it lol nah .
Main reason i bought Mine had 118,000 on the clock when i bought it bout 121 now very low! , V6 Auto columnshift, its defintly had some minor work to it, fkn has power aye $9500 but you can see what i paid for
wow thats low as. good work finding that.
well cheers for your help. imsure when i finally buy one itl be up on her asking what i should do to it :P
have fun with yours tho im so bloody jealous!
try get as low kms as you can man, i got mine with only 100,000 on the clock and around 120,000 atm
