    Unhappy vs radio

g,day,i can get radio all set up presets etc.soon as key passes light up stage on dash it goes off and all memory lost. i thougt it may be wired up wrong, not original radio (pioneer)been like this since i've had it.( 4 yrs) the other day put ignition on ,radio on,and started it under bonnet via start relay. radio stayed on.very strange i,m beginning to think there should be a constant wire somewhere. cd. side goes great no matter what i do with ign. don,t want to remove it as i think it looks like a big job.there are 2 fuses both ok. not all that flash with electrics so has any one got any clues. just a bit of a pain, thanks for any info.

Yep, sounds like it's been wired up wrong, there should be 2 power wires going in the the stereo, one is normally yellow on after market units, the other should be red.
Yellow needs to be hooked up to a constant power supply from your battery, this is your settings memory wire, and red to ignition, that turns it on.
Only way your gunna know for sure will be to pull it out, so you can see how it's been wired up.

had the exact problem, it was a dead constant power wire (the yellow one)

ps. Just checked my VS Gregory's book, and my car(I also have a Pioneer) to make sure.
Yellow from the stereo, to be connected to Orange/Violet from the car(constant power).
Red from the stereo, to be connected to Yellow from the car(ignition).

Ya need memory wire constantly connected to live source and one to power, at engine start up all radios/stereos momentarily loose power, mem wire prevents you loosing presets. Re wire and try again or get some one else to do it.
