Ok i was just out to lunch and noticed my engine temps a bit high, so i went to top up the radiator but it was full, so i bleed the air out of the system at the thermostat and just stuck a hose in the radiator to try flush some of the water cause it was a bit dirty. During this process the thermo splashed a bit of water in the engine bay but nothing too wet.
i got in the car and started back to work everything was fine then noticed my oil light was on, pulled over and check engine, plenty of oil in engine all sensors seem to be plugged in and engine sounded fine, no rattles or clunks or signs of oil issues.
So i proceeded to drive back to work and 2 minutes later my engine light came on so pulled over again and checked engine codes, i got 2 errors
- Transmission Slipping
- Engine idle high
Transmission didnt feel like it had any problems and car was idling high at about 1200-1400 rpm.
Again i check all plugs, on the engine and throttle body but no visible issues. The rubber grommet was missing from my oil sensor at the oil filter and there was a bit of moisture in there. I took this as a sign of the water messing with the sensor and proceeded back to work.
Now everything seems ok except for the high idle....
What the hell could be causing this? i dont want to risk driving it with an oil light on but i need to get the car home after work (35km of hills and highways)
Any ideas would be muchly appreciated.
It could be the throttle cable sticking and holding the throttle open a bit.If you start the engine and listen to it,it should sound quiet. If the oil pressure was down, there would be a noticeable rattle to the engine. You would definitely hear it.If theres no rattle,it is probably just a faulty oil pressure sensor and should be ok to drive.Just listen closely to the engine if you are going to drive it home, and stop it straight away if you hear anything that sounds like a rattle or odd noise.
