    Default Clutch replacement costs on a 5-speed Manual VS III S Ute???

    Hey there guys, looking at getting my first ute, a 5-speed manual 2000 VS III S. However the seller has informed me that it has got a very slight clutch slip. Am i correct in thinking that this means that i should get it replaced now before it gets worse?? If i do need to replace it, which gearbox does it use and what sort of costs would i be up for?

    Thanks very much

    it will have a getrag hydraulic box, i would price up a new clutch and see if the seller will knock the cost off the price.
    If you fit it your self it will save you heaps, its not that hard to do if you have a little mechanical knowledge or have a friend who can help you.

    just the clutch, you could get the flywheel machined if you wanted to but most the time its not essential

    One last quick question guys, i appreciate all your help so far! How hard is it to replace the clutch myself?? Im 17 so money is a bit tight and the guy is willing to drop $500 off the price, which is enough to get me a new clutch id this link here is anything to go by.

    gearbox has to come off, if you are confident in taking the gearbox off your self you will have no problems.
    Its pretty simple, but you will need a friend to help you lift the gearbox off and on.

    Get yourself a gregorys workshop manual for your model before you start,and have a good read of what you are going to do.They cost about $50,well worth it.Its easy to follow,step by step instructions with heaps of pictures,and makes doing repairs like renewing your clutch heaps easier.Plus you will learn stuff too,and save heaps.About machining your flywheel,just check out the condition of the flywheel face where the clutch plate contacts it,make sure its flat and smooth with no scoring or ridging.If its bad machine or renew it.Cheers.

    if the car your looking at is a 2000 series3 im not sure if that manual will cover a 2000 model ute, because the vn vp vq vr vs series1 have the T5 gearbox, was only VS series 2 onwards that have the getrag box.
    Maybe ask someone with a gregorys manual if it covers the clutch replacement on a getrag box, Hako has a manual ;-)

    Mate the haynes one will do but haynes arent quite as good as gregorys.Have you tried to google gregorys automotive?You might be able to buy them online from the makers. I have both brands of manual for the VS-V6. The Info for the clutch in the V6 haynes one is pretty good though,Its mainly the wiring diagrams that are bodgey in the haynes ones.

    If this is the case;

    Best thing you can do is find an equivalent car with solid flywheel that is designed to be driven by people that know how to drive a manual! Don't think about buying a manual car with a DMF unless you want to be called a sissy by your mates! (just kidding) The DMF makes gear changes smother for those having difficulty with clutch control!

    The Japs first started this DMF thing in the Toyota Surf! Think about it!

    If you do buy a DMF equipped car, in the end, you will pay big dollars to convert a DMF car to solid when the DMF FAILS! (They will fail, just like engine mounts fail, because they have the same rubber inside!)

    That is all!
