Fault Code 48 and a problem in the transmission

We have bought this VR two days ago (my brilliant Idea) I drive it 200 km home no problems I take the car to the car wash. Then it starts not being able to change gears, now it is only using gear 2 and 3. Came across this web site (you can google anything) and I have checked the fault codes using my trusty paper clip. It isn't saying (flashing) anything about the transmission only 48 - reset the codes took the car for a spin and still 48???? Any thoughts!

Hi,code 48 is cam angle sensor.The cam angle sensor is at the front of the engine.You should be able to see the wires going to the sensor.Check the wiring and connectors and if that looks ok,replace the sensor.If worst comes to worst,there is a magnet in the camshaft drive sprocket that trips the sensor as it goes past it.Theres a little plastic cage thing that holds this magnet in the sprocket.Ive seen the plastic cage thing break, and the magnet ends up in the engine somewhere.I cant remember where we found the old magnet but its just a p***k if this happens.The timing case has to come off.Not too hard to do though.The price holden wanted for the magnet was around the $80 mark.But I dont think you will need to worry.Its most likely the sensor itself or a bad connection..Just unbolt it and replace with a new one.Too easy.Cheers.
