    Default noise in front end

My vr has fe2 springs and I replaced the struts at the same time when i fitted them to suit the springs....it has nolathane link pins and renewed inner control arm bushes and new upper supports and z bar bushes...it has a new rack but it has a thump noise that I cant find that happens when I go over bigish bumps when the spring compresses....it happens on both sides...a sort of clunk.....next I might look at ball joints....but I cant see any play...any ideas? Ive checked the nuts and washers on top of the strut and they are done up tight
Also I previously had king springs fitted but didnt like the harsh ride and the clunk was there with them too. I actually measured the wire size on the king springs and compared them to fe2 and the fe2 are bigger...what the? more harsh ride on fe2?

How are your upper bump stop rubbers also check the ball joints are tight in the bottom of the strut. I've had so called front end specialists work on my old Torana and while not the same they didn't lock the ball jont tapers in the stub axle and there was a really bad noise going over speed humps etc.
Check also the bottom arm pivots are tight and if not was everything tightened up with the vehicle weight on the wheels?

I'm having a similar issue on my vr at teh moment, struts, bearings, supports and links/link bushes are brand new (about 300km old) they were all replaced to try to stop this clunk but didn't work. tie rod ends about 1000-1500km ago, that HELPED but didn't eliminate the clunk. i'm thinking wheel bearings.
the old LH strut was stuffed, as was the bearing and support (bearing/support were about 200km old when replaced, they just exploded)
i can't find anything else moving which shouldn't, except wheel bearings have some slop

I thought since my car had standard suspension and I changed it to fe2 spec maybe the bottom control arm ball joint had a ridge worn into it and now as it sits lower now the ridge moves over the joint and clunks....I managed to get one secondhand control arm and new ball joint to experiment with...thought Id take one out and replace the whole arm with the new joint and see how the clunk goes if its still there just put the old one back on......it also makes that clunk noise sometimes when reversing and you apply the brakes and also when you go up a driveway just as you change angles.I have changed the z bar bushes at both ends also still no joy.......I thought about the wheel bearings ...mine are old but can they make a clunk noise? Id hate to replace them and find out it isnt it....maybe do one and see what changes....
I do remember after changing the rack and my car had a lot of toe I drove the car for a few days and the clunk wasnt there...it sort of loaded up the suspension so if there was any play the forward speed of the car pushed it to its extreme on one side and stayed there as the suspension was depressed. Also my car seems to have a fair bit of bump steer.
