Default Friends VS Metal Scraping Noise over 3000RPM?

    Hey guys

This post is for a Mate his Mum has a VS II Ecotec like me however it makes a Loud Metal Scraping Metal noise @3000rpm it is slightly noticable but above 4000 it is very loud, however there is no decrease in perfomance, or hesitations in the Engine, my guess is Bearrings and suggested trying thicker oil.

    What do you guys think?

    Thanks

IF it was engine bearings it wouldn't be a scrapping sound it would be a more slapping sound.

Could be something to do with one of the pulley's, but hard to say without hearing it, or to narrow it down without more info..

Will an Ecotec start and run without a belt? I always assumed it would need the alternator hooked up to keep it running..

That's true too, but hopefully it wouldn't take very long, a few seconds or more as moff_man said, to pinpoint or eliminate the pulleys as the source of the scraping noise.

thanks for the info I will pass it on, I also suggested a pulley to him but he is not very mechanical minded so I will go down there in a few days and have a look myself armed with the info from you guys.

    Thanks for the help

Definitely check all your idler pulleys, take the engine belt of a spin each one individually and check for noise. I had the same problem, all my idler pulleys were shot just replace em, 30 bucks each for better pulleys than the genuine ones.
