VR using only 2nd and 3rd gears? Any Ideas

So we have wiggled plugs, changed the transmission fluid and filter - serviced the car and Ruby (the VR) still won't change gears. Would this be because of the Solinoids needs replacing? even though when we paperclip the computer it won't pick up any solinoid problems only Code 48? The fella I bought the car from said to wiggle the cable that goes into the transmission - Younger Brother also cut the speed plug as it was wired badly now we have engine light on and no speedo would this mess around with the cars gear changing abilities.

Okay speedo sender is the plug that plugs into the side? I have no idea with engines - before this plug was pulled out it wasn't changing gears. It is a little plastic clip thing that wires go in on one side and clip into the gear box. The previous owner had the wires in on the same side as the clip goes into the plug. From my understanding of the plug it is a cheaky way to stop your speedo clicking over.
