vs acclaim v6 driving fine stop at the lights and occasionally it will surge splutter almost stall then it's fine again, a couple of times sitting at the lights and it just turns off with no warnings at all like flicking a switch the engine stops, start it again all is good again, a couple of times slowing right down to pull over or go through roadworks and it just switches off with no warning.
my mate recently got a vs exec and I asked him how it's all going he said all good except the same problem we are having as above but no surging at the traffic lights.
any ideas would be much appreciated.

injectors could be blocked or have crap in them? same scenario with my VN ages ago, use to stall and splutter randomly, then one day it just stopped, and refused to kick over. i pulled the injectors and fuel rail out, got them cleaned up, threw it back in and rans sweet ever since. worth a try?
worth a try,
I was also thinking something electrical though.

id be changing the CAS, use a genuine one not a cheap one.
I was just looking at the cas on ebay and thinking $50 odd dollars seems ok and if thats not it I would have a spare cos it will go eventually. any idea how much for a genuine one at trade price I've only got vl ones before and that hurts.

Does the engine warning light come on b4 it cuts out?
No, all the dash lights come on after the engine cuts out then we start it again and everything is fine. until next time. there is no telling when it is going to do it and the same when it surges forward, but when it surges forward it splutters and almost stalls but doesn't then corrects itself and all is fine again.

Check for logged fault codes first - this will give you an indication of what is wrong. Instructions are at: Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)
mine did this. it also u know what when i fixed the o2 earth problem. it never logged codes but scince i earthed the sensors the problems totalty gone.
what about a faulty map sensor??
Sounds more like a faulty CAS (Crank Angle Sensor)as mentioned above. It would be the first thing Id be replacing or checking/testing if my car had these symptoms.A very common problem on the V6.
